The ‘4K’ UHD resolution provides plenty of pixels to play or work with. The Samsung S27B800PXE (S27B80 of the ‘ViewFinity S8’ or S80PB series) combines this with a 27″ screen, giving it an excellent pixel density. The monitor has a professional look, with a coated metal stand and dark matte plastics used elsewhere. The top and side bezels are dual-stage, with slender panel border flush with the rest of the screen plus a thin hard plastic outer part. An integrated light sensor allows the screen to adjust its brightness and colour temperature according to ambient lighting conditions. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by a joystick beneath the central area of the bottom bezel.
A 27″ 3840 x 2160 (‘4K’ UHD) IPS-type panel is adopted. This is accompanied by a ‘glare-free’ matte anti-glare screen surface, 60Hz refresh rate, 1000:1 static contrast ratio and 178°/178° viewing angles. The monitor offers 10-bit colour support (8-bit + FRC assumed), whilst a factory calibration is included with an sRGB setting. A flicker-free WLED backlight provides a 350 cd/m² (400 cd/m² HDR peak) typical maximum luminance and 98% DCI-P3 colour gamut. The monitor supports VESA DisplayHDR 400, responding to HDR10 content in a basic way with 10-bit colour reproduction – plus allowing the fairly generous colour gamut to be put to good use. It doesn’t require particularly high luminance by HDR standards or local dimming, however.
Low Blue Light (LBL) settings are included, such as ‘Eye Saver Mode’, designed to promote a more relaxing viewing experience. A 5ms grey to grey response time is specified, but as usual don’t put too much weight on this figure. The stand attaches centrally via a quick-release mechanism, with provision for an alternative 100 x 100mm VESA compliant solution if preferred. The included stand offers full ergonomic flexibility, including 120mm (4.72 inches) height adjustment and pivot into portrait. The ports mainly face downwards and include; AC power input (internal power converter), HDMI 2.0, DP 1.4, LAN (Ethernet) and USB-C (90W PD, DP Alt Mode, upstream data). A 3.5mm headphone jack and 3 USB 3.0 ports face backwards to the right of the stand.
