Further information on supporting our work.27″ WQHD models remain a popular choice for gaming and general-purpose usage – and the ASUS VG27AC1A is one such model. The monitor offers the usual styling associated with the TUF Gaming series to which it belongs, with a chunky matte plastic ‘penguin foot’ stand and fairly thick bottom bezel. The top and side bezels are dual-stage with a slim panel border flush with the rest of the screen plus slender hard plastic outer part. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by a joystick and buttons at the rear of the screen, towards the right side as viewed from the front.
A 27″ 2560 x 1440 (WQHD or 1440p) IPS-type panel is employed, with 170Hz refresh rate supported. Adaptive-Sync features including support for Nvidia ‘G-SYNC Compatible’ and AMD FreeSync Premium, with a 48 – 170Hz VRR range plus LFC. Other aspects of note include a matte anti-glare screen surface, 1000:1 static contrast ratio, 178°/178° viewing angles and true 8-bit colour support. A flicker-free WLED backlight provides a 130% sRGB colour gamut and 250 cd/m² typical maximum luminance. Low Blue Light (LBL) settings are included to promote a more relaxing viewing experience. Basic HDR10 support is offered, allowing the monitor to employ 10-bit processing and putting its reasonably wide gamut to work. But without local dimming or a high brightness required – so not a true HDR experience by any means.
A 1ms MPRT response time is specified using ELMB Sync – a strobe backlight setting which can be used in conjunction with VRR. ‘VariableOverdrive’ is mentioned which suggests some re-tuning as refresh rate changes, though the success of this has been limited with previous models from the manufacturer. ‘GameFast Input technology’ also features as a nod towards low input lag. The included stand offers tilt and swivel only, but 100 x 100mm VESA is supported for alternative mounting. The ports face downwards and include; a 3.5mm headphone jack, HDMI 2.0, DP 1.2a+ (HDR feature set), USB-C (15W PD, DP Alt Mode, USB upstream), 2 USB 3.2 Gen1 ports plus upstream and a DC power input (external ‘power brick’). KVM functionality allows easy sharing of connected USB peripherals between systems, whilst 2 x 2W speakers are also included.
