Further information on supporting our work.High refresh rate ‘4K’ UHD models are becoming increasingly popular, with powerful PCs and modern games consoles able to put them to good use. The LG 27GP95R (27GP95R-B due to the mainly black rear) provides this, with HDMI 2.1 featuring to deliver a 120Hz ‘4K’ UHD signal with VRR to devices including the PS5 and Xbox Series X. The monitor provides the familiar styling of the UltraGear series to which it belongs. It includes a ‘penguin foot’ stand with matte black plastic upper surface and dark red element at the bottom, along the inside edge. A dual-stage design is used for the bezels at all sides, including a slim panel border flush with the rest of the screen plus a thin hard plastic outer part. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by a joystick which faces downwards centrally, beneath the bottom bezel.
A 27″ LG Display Nano IPS panel is used, with 3840 x 2160 (‘4K’ UHD) resolution and support for a 160Hz refresh rate. Adaptive-Sync is supported including Nvidia ‘G-SYNC Compatible’ and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro, with 48 – 160Hz VRR range plus LFC. Other aspects of note include a very light matte anti-glare screen surface, 1000:1 static contrast ratio, 10-bit (8-bit + FRC) colour and 178°/178° viewing angles. Hardware calibration is supported using LG Calibration Studio software and a compatible colorimeter, allowing the LUT of the monitor to be directly addressed and custom preset calibrations loaded into the monitor. The monitor features a flicker-free WLED backlight with 98% DCI-P3 colour gamut and 400 cd/m² typical maximum luminance. The monitor responds to HDR10 content at the VESA DisplayHDR 600 level. Allowing it to deliver decent brightness and put its generous DCI-P3 coverage to good use alongside 10-bit colour output. Basic edge-lit local dimming is also provided for a situational edge in contrast, with 16 dimming zones likely based on what earlier iterations of this model provided.
A 1ms grey to grey response time is specified, which as usual you should approach with caution. An integrated low input lag feature is also included; Dynamic Action Sync (DAS). The ‘Sphere Lighting 2.0’ feature found on the predecessors to this model (27GN950 and 27GP950) appears to have been removed. The stand attaches centrally via a quick-release mechanism and offers tilt, height and pivot adjustment. Removing this reveals 100 x 100mm VESA holes for alternative mounting. The ports face backwards in a recessed area to the right of the stand attachment point and include; 2 HDMI 2.1 ports, DP 1.4 (with DSC), 2 USB 3.0 ports (plus upstream), a 3.5mm headphone jack and DC power input (external ‘power brick’).
Further information can be found on the manufacturer’s website. The monitor is listed for ~$800 USD.
