The 3440 x 1440 resolution and ultrawide experience associated with it can be attractive for immersive gaming, amongst other uses. Couple that with an OLED panel and it can really bring things to another level. The Dell Alienware AW3425DW (not to be confused with the “DWM” VA LCD model) provides this, with a high refresh rate designed to help hammer home the responsiveness benefits of the panel technology. The monitor includes a gently curved but simple stand neck and low-profile base with dark matte finish. The top and side bezels of the screen are dual-stage with slim panel border flush with the rest of the screen, plus thin hard plastic outer part. An ‘active area’ around the image is used for a pixel shifting feature, designed to minimise image retention. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by a joystick beneath the central region of the bottom bezel. Customisable ‘AlienFX’ RGB LED lighting is included for the power status ring, surrounding a power button towards the right side.

Simpler Alienware styling

A 34.2″ 3440 x 1440 (21:9 ultrawide) Samsung Display QD-OLED panel is used with support for a 240Hz refresh rate, alongside VRR via Adaptive-Sync and HDMI 2.1 VRR. Technologies such as AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and Nvidia ‘G-SYNC Compatible’ can be used, with 48 – 240Hz VRR range plus LFC supported. A 1800R (moderate) curve is included to slightly increase immersion, without feeling unnatural. The usual glossy QD-OLED screen surface is used whilst a 1.5m:1 static contrast ratio, 178°/178° viewing angles and 10-bit colour are specified. The screen is flicker-free with 99.3% DCI-P3 gamut specified, alongside a 250 cd/m² (1000 cd/m² HDR peak) typical maximum luminance. The monitor is factory calibrated with DeltaE <2 with 'ComfortView Plus' included - the monitor offers less energetic blue light emission without compromising colour temperature, potentially improving viewing comfort (TÜV Rheinland certified hardware solution).

The monitor offers a dynamic HDR10 response, putting its per-pixel dimming and very wide gamut to potentially good use alongside 10-bit colour reproduction. The screen is VESA DisplayHDR True Black 400 certified, with some HDR modes offering some strong brightness peaks as well. A 0.03ms grey to grey response time is specified, with OLED technology known for exceptional pixel responsiveness. An additional ‘AlienFX’ lighting element is included at the rear, in the form of an ‘Alien Head’ logo. The stand attaches centrally via a quick-release mechanism and can be removed to reveal provision for 100 x 100mm VESA mounting. The stand offers tilt, swivel and height (110mm or 4.33 inches) adjustment. The ports face downwards; AC power input (internal power converter), 2 HDMI 2.1 ports (high bandwidth FRL), DP 1.4 (with DSC) and a USB-B upstream port. A USB 3.2 Gen1 port and USB-C (15W PD) downstream port are located at the bottom of the screen, for easy access. The 3-year premium warranty included with the monitor covers OLED burn-in “for additional peace of mind”.
