The MSI MAG 274UPDF E16M provides this experience, with 160Hz UHD (320Hz FHD) IPS panel. The monitor offers homely styling with extensive use of dark matte plastic. The top and side bezels are dual-stage, with slim panel border flush with the rest of the screen plus thin hard plastic outer part. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by a joystick beneath a central underhang on the bottom bezel. A ‘Dual Mode’ quick switch is also included, allowing rapid switching between 160Hz ‘4K’ UHD and 320Hz FHD.
A 27” IPS panel is used with 3840 x 2160 (‘4K’ UHD) resolution, matte anti-glare screen surface and 160Hz native refresh rate. The monitor can run up to 320Hz at the 1920 x 1080 (Full HD or 1080p) resolution. VRR is supported via Adaptive-Sync and HDMI 2.1 VRR, allowing technologies such as Nvidia ‘G-SYNC Compatible’ and AMD FreeSync to be used as well as VRR for devices such as the PS5 which don’t support Adaptive-Sync. A 48 – 160Hz (48 – 320Hz FHD) VRR range plus LFC is supported. Other aspects of note include a 1000:1 static contrast ratio, 178°/178° viewing angles and 10-bit (8-bit + FRC) colour support. A flicker-free Quantum Dot Mini LED backlight delivers a 98% DCI-P3 (100% Adobe RGB, 143% sRGB) colour gamut plus 400 cd/m² (1000 cd/m² HDR peak) typical maximum luminance.
This 1152-zone Mini LED (FALD) backlight offers a dynamic experience under HDR, at the VESA DisplayHDR 1000 level. The experience is enhanced by a generous gamut and 10-bit colour processing, which can be used alongside strong brightness and effective local dimming. A 0.5ms grey to grey response time is specified, with the screen factory calibrated with claimed DeltaE ≤2. The stand attaches centrally and can be removed to reveal provision for 100 x 100mm VESA mounting. The stand provides full adjustability, including 110mm (4.33 inches) height adjustment and pivot into portrait. The ports face downwards and include; DC power input (external ‘power brick’), 2 HDMI 2.1 ports (full bandwidth, 48 Gbps), DP 1.4 (with DSC), USB-C (DP Alt Mode, 15W PD) and a 3.5mm headphone jack. A range of aspect ratio options are included, such as a 24.5″ simulation setting.
