~32″ ‘4K’ UHD models provide an immersive and pixel-rich experience with various advantages for both work and play. The VG32UQA1A of the ASUS TUF Gaming series provides this, focusing on an enhanced contrast VA experience. HDMI 2.1 support is included, offering a 120Hz ‘4K’ UHD signal for systems including the PS5 and Xbox Series X. The monitor adopts the usual ‘chunky-looking’ styling of the series with plenty of dark matte plastic. The bezels are dual-stage at the top and side, with slim panel border flush with the rest of the screen plus thin hard plastic outer part. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by a joystick and buttons at the rear of the screen, running down the right side as viewed from the front.

A TUF appearance

A 31.5″ 3840 x 2160 (‘4K’ UHD) flat VA panel is adopted, with support for a 160Hz refresh rate and VRR provided via Adaptive-Sync and HDMI 2.1 VRR. Technologies such as AMD FreeSync Premium and Nvidia’s ‘G-SYNC Compatible’ can be used, with 48 – 160Hz VRR range plus LFC. A matte anti-glare screen surface is included, with a 2500:1 static contrast ratio, 178°/178° viewing angles and 10-bit colour specified. A flicker-free WLED backlight provides a 120% sRGB colour gamut and 400 cd/m² (450 cd/m² HDR peak) typical maximum luminance. Basic HDR10 support is offered at the VESA DisplayHDR 400 level, so effective local dimming is not required to enhance contrast and brightness levels are relatively limited by HDR standards. The colour gamut is quite limited as well, though 10-bit colour can be used to enhanced the nuanced shade variety and give a different look to content.

Low Blue Light (LBL) settings are included to provide a more relaxing viewing experience. A 1ms MPRT response time is specified (pay little attention to this specification) using ELMB Sync, a strobe backlight setting which can be used alongside VRR if you wish. Variable overdrive is also noted, which is able to re-tune the acceleration levels for lower refresh rates to reduce overshoot. The included stand is tilt-only, but 100 x 100mm VESA support is included as an alternative if superior ergonomics are preferred. The ports face downwards and include; a 3.5mm headphone jack, 2 HDMI 2.1 ports (48 Gbps), DP 1.4 (with DSC), 2 USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports (plus Type-B downstream) and a DC power input (external ‘power brick’).
