For productivity purposes 2560 x 1440 models can be attractive, even with only a slight boost from the ‘standard’ 60Hz refresh rate. The BenQ GW2790QT is one such offering, opting for white matte plastics rather than the usual darker colouration. Some contrast is offered by a central glossy black sensor unit, used for the ‘B.I.Tech’ (Brightness Intelligence Technology, Generation 2) feature which adjusts brightness and other image characteristics based on the image and ambient lighting. The top and side bezels are dual-stage, with slim panel border flush with the rest of the screen and slim hard white plastic outer part. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by buttons and a joystick at the underside of the bottom bezel, towards the right side.

A fresh design

A 27″ IPS-type panel is used with 2560 x 1440 (QHD or 1440p) resolution, 75Hz refresh rate and matte anti-glare screen surface. A 1000:1 static contrast ratio is specified, alongside 178°/178° viewing angles and 8-bit colour support. A flicker-free WLED backlight provides a 99% sRGB colour gamut and 350 cd/m² typical maximum luminance. The monitor is ‘Eyesafe’ certified by TÜV Rheinland, with the blue peak shifted to less energetic wavelengths and the amplitude of the peak reduced to potentially improve viewing comfort. This forms part of the ‘Low Blue Light Plus’ functionality, which also includes dedicated presets which provide a warmer look to the image – creating a viewing experience some will find more relaxing.

A 5ms grey to grey response time is specified, which as usual you shouldn’t put too much weight on. The included stand provides full adjustability, including 110mm (4.33 inches) height adjustment and pivot into portrait. It attaches using a quick-release mechanism and can be removed to reveal 100 x 100mm VESA holes. The ports face downwards and include; AC power (internal power converter), HDMI 2.0, DP 1.2, USB-C (65W PD, DP Alt Mode, upstream data), DP out (for MST daisy chaining) and 2 USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports. Outside of the main port area, facing downwards towards the bottom right (as viewed from the front) there is a third USB 3.2 Gen 1 port and 3.5mm headphone jack. 2 x 2W noise filtering speakers and an integrated noise-cancelling microphone are also included.

The rear

Further information can be found on the manufacturer’s website. The monitor is listed for ~$400 USD.
