For gaming on various systems, movie watching and desktop usage the ‘4K’ UHD resolution can be enticing. The ASUS PG27UQR of the ROG Swift series provides this experience, with a strong colour and response performance in mind from its mildly curved IPS panel. HDMI 2.1 support is included, offering a 120Hz ‘4K’ UHD signal for systems including the PS5 and Xbox Series X. The monitor offers familiar styling, without the colourful elements found on some ASUS gaming monitors. Dark matte plastics are the material of choice here. The top and side bezels are dual-stage, with slim panel border flush with the rest of the screen plus thin hard plastic outer part. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by a joystick and accompanying buttons at the rear of the screen, running down the right side as viewed from the front.

A 27″ 3840 x 2160 (‘4K’ UHD) IPS-type panel is used with very slight curve and support for a 160Hz refresh rate. VRR is provided via Adaptive-Sync (and likely HDMI 2.1), including support for AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and Nvidia’s ‘G-SYNC Compatible’ with 48 – 160Hz VRR range plus LFC. A matte anti-glare screen surface is adopted, whilst a 1000:1 static contrast ratio, 178°/178° viewing angles and 10-bit colour support is specified. The screen is factory calibrated with specified DeltaE <2. A flicker-free WLED backlight provides a 95% DCI-P3 colour gamut and 400 cd/m² (600 cd/m² HDR peak) typical maximum luminance. LBL (Low Blue Light) settings are included to promote a more relaxing viewing experience. The monitor responds to HDR10 content with VESA DisplayHDR 600 certification. This includes basic local dimming and decent brightness pulses to slightly enhance the contrast experience, with the 10-bit colour support and decent DCI-P3 coverage being put to use as well.

A 1ms grey to grey response time is specified, which as usual should be taken with a pinch of salt. Variable overdrive is also noted, which is able to re-tune the acceleration levels for lower refresh rates to reduce overshoot. ELMB Sync also features, a strobe backlight setting which can be used alongside VRR if you wish. The included stand is fully adjustable, including 100mm (3.94 inches) height adjustment and pivot into portrait. It can be detached via a quick-release mechanism, revealing provision for 100 x 100mm VESA mounting. The ports face downwards beneath a removable plastic cover and include; DC power input (external ‘power brick’), DP 1.4 (with DSC), 2 HDMI 2.1 ports (48 Gbps) and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
