The marriage of ‘4K’ UHD resolution and triple digit refresh rate is very attractive. This is provided by the AOC U27G3X, with HDMI 2.1 support included to provide ‘4K’ UHD @120Hz for devices including the PS5 and Xbox Series X. The monitor has a ‘star-shaped’ stand design, with short back feet and long front feet. It’s dark silver-coloured plastic, whereas the monitor is mainly matte black elsewhere with a few dark red metallic-look elements. The top and side bezels are dual-stage, with slim panel border flush with the rest of the screen plus thin hard plastic outer part. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by buttons which face downwards towards the right side of the bottom bezel.

A 27″ 3840 x 2160 (‘4K’ UHD) IPS-type panel is used, with support for a 160Hz refresh rate and Adaptive-Sync. This allows VRR technologies such as AMD FreeSync and Nvidia ‘G-SYNC Compatible’ to be used (HDMI 2.1 VRR also assumed) with 48 – 160Hz VRR range plus LFC. A matte screen surface is adopted whilst a 1000:1 static contrast ratio, 178°/178° viewing angles and 10-bit colour are specified. A flicker-free WLED backlight provides 95% DCI-P3 colour gamut coverage (126% sRGB) and 400 cd/m² (450 cd/m² HDR peak) typical maximum luminance. The screen includes a factory calibrated sRGB setting with DeltaE <2 and also includes a shifted peak of blue light for the backlight, potentially improving viewing comfort.

Basic HDR10 support is provided at the VESA DisplayHDR 400 level, allowing the screen to put its gamut to good use alongside 10-bit processing. But not requiring a particularly high brightness by HDR standards or local dimming. A 1ms grey to grey response time is specified (approach with caution), with an MBR strobe backlight setting also featuring and ‘Low Input Lag’ mentioned. The included stand offers full adjustability, including 130mm (5.12 inches) height adjustment and pivot into portrait. It can be removed via quick-release mechanism to reveal provision for 100 x 100mm VESA mounting. The ports face downwards and include; 2 HDMI 2.1 ports, 2 DP 1.4 (with DSC) ports, a 3.5mm audio output and AC power input (internal power converter). 2-system PiP/PbP is also supported.
