The clarity and colour performance provided by ‘4K’ UHD IPS models make them attractive for colour-critical work including photo editing. The BenQ PhotoVue SW272U is one such offering. The monitor has a robust and professional look, with coated metal stand elements including a cylindrical neck. A detachable shading hood is included to reduce glare from above and to the sides. The stand base has a leatherette covering towards the front, offering a soft and slightly grippy surface “valuable items”. The top and side bezels are dual-stage with slender panel border flush with the rest of the screen and slim hard plastic outer part. The OSD (On Screen Display) can be controlled by a joystick and buttons, facing downwards towards the right side of the bottom bezel. Or using the wired ‘Hotkey Puck G3’ controller, which is one of the “valuable items” you may like to store on the leatherette covering. A light sensor is included towards the right side of the bottom bezel, allowing the monitor to adapt to ambient lighting.

Professional styling

A 27″ 3840 x 2160 (‘4K’ UHD) IPS-type panel is employed, an AUO Advanced Reflectionless Technology (A.R.T.) panel with TÜV Rheinland “Reflection-Free” certification for the screen surface. Other aspects of note include a 60Hz refresh rate, 1000:1 static contrast ratio, 178°/178° viewing angles and 10-bit colour support. An LED backlight provides a 99% Adobe RGB, 99% DCI-P3 and 100% sRGB colour gamut plus 400 cd/m² typical maximum luminance. A DeltaE ≤1.5 is specified with Calman Verified and Pantone Validated factory calibration – with multiple colour space modes, including those covering the specified gamuts. The monitor has a 16-bit 3D LUT with hardware calibration supported via BenQ Palette Master Ultimate, including Uniformity Compensation.

The monitor responds to HDR10 content (VESA DisplayHDR 400 certified) and supports HLG, allowing its 10-bit colour support and generous gamut to be put to good use. The brightness is limited by HDR standards and local dimming isn’t specified, however. A 5ms grey to grey response time is specified, which should be approached with caution as usual. The stand attaches centrally via a quick-release mechanism and can be detached to reveal provision for 100 x 100mm VESA mounting. The included stand offers full adjustability, including 140mm (5.51 inches) height adjustment and pivot into portrait. Most of the ports face downwards beneath a removable cover and include; AC power (internal power converter), 2 HDMI 2.0 ports, DP 1.4, USB-C (90W PD, DP Alt Mode, upstream data) and USB Type-B upstream. A 3.5mm headphone jack, 2 USB 3.1 ports and an SD card reader are included outside the main port area for easy access, at the bottom of the screen towards the right side as viewed from the front.
