Further information on supporting our work. For some colour-critical work, such as photography involving printing, Adobe RGB is the colour gamut of choice on a monitor. The number of monitors fully covering this is relatively slim, with the ViewSonic VP2786-4K of the ColorPro series being one colour-focused option which does. The monitor has a professional look with dual-stage bezels at all sides – with slim panel border flush with the rest of the screen and thin hard plastic outer part. The bottom bezel has a thicker plastic bottom bezel, but is still relatively slim with dual-stage design. A ‘ColorPro Wheel’ is included, neatly stored in an indentation on the stand base, which includes an X-Rite colorimeter sensor. And a wheel at the top which allows easy OSD (On Screen Display) navigation – it can also be used with compatible Adobe Photoshop and Capture One software for functions such as zoom, brightness adjustment and brush size adjustment. A joystick and dedicated power button at the rear of the screen, towards the right side as viewed from the front, offers additional OSD control. A detachable (magnetic attachment) shading hood is included to reduce glare from light striking the screen from the top and sides, whilst a ‘Backstage Light’ feature is included to illuminate the desk beneath the screen.
The monitor uses a 27″ 3840 x 2160 (‘4K’ UHD) IPS-type panel with 60Hz refresh rate and matte anti-glare screen surface. A 1300:1 static contrast ratio is specified alongside 178°/178° viewing angles and true 10-bit colour support. The monitor includes a Pantone validated factory calibration with specified DeltaE <2 and supports hardware calibration using the included colorimeter or an alternative supported device and ViewSonic’s Colorbration software. An LED backlight provides 100% Adobe RGB and 98% DCI-P3 colour space coverage, alongside a 350 cd/m² typical maximum luminance. Basic HDR10 support is included, allowing the 10-bit colour support and generous gamut to be used effectively. But the luminance is very limited by HDR standards and no local dimming is specified – so only very basic HDR support here.
A 5ms grey to grey response time is specified, but as usual don’t put much weight on this specification. The included stand attaches centrally via a quick-release mechanism – removing the stand reveals 100 x 100mm VESA holes for alternative mounting. The stand is fully adjustable, including 130mm (5.12 inches) height adjustment and pivot into portrait. The ports face downwards beneath a removable plastic cover and include; AC power input (internal power converter), 2 HDMI 2.0 ports, DP 1.4, USB-C (90W PD, DP Alt Mode, upstream data), a 3.5mm headphone jack, 4 USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports (plus Type-B upstream) and a Micro USB port for the ‘ColorPro Wheel’. KVM support is included, allowing easy USB peripheral sharing and display signal switching between 2 connected systems. 2-device PbP and PiP is supported, whilst 2 x 3W speakers are also included.
Further information can be found on the manufacturer’s website. The monitor is listed for ~$1000 USD.
