The combination of ‘1440p’ resolution and 240Hz refresh rate is often sought-after for both gaming (including some competitive) and productivity usage. It also helps put higher-end GPUs to good use. The BenQ EX270QM is one such offering, complemented by the usual MOBIUZ styling elements and features. This includes bold styling on the stand base, with long legs topped with matte silver plastic and an inner area composed of diagonal orange and purple stripes – for a splash of colour. The top and side bezels are dual-stage with slim panel border flush with the rest of the screen, plus a thin hard plastic outer part. The bottom bezel has a speaker grille texture and houses 2 x 2W speakers, making up part of the 2.1 channel TreVolo sound system. It also houses a central sensor unit, including an IR sensor for the included OSD (On Screen Display) remote. And a light sensor used for the ‘B.I.+’ and ‘HDRi’ functionality of the screen, which adapts the image based on both the content displayed and ambient lighting. A dedicated HDRi button is located to the right, with a joystick plus control buttons facing downwards, to the right of centre. Offering an alternative method of OSD control to the IR remote.

Bold styling

A 27″ 2560 x 1440 (WQHD or 1440p) IPS panel is adopted, with (likely light to very light) matte anti-glare screen surface. Based on the specifications we believe this could be the LG Display LM270WQB-SSA1 Nano IPS panel. Adaptive-Sync support is offered, including AMD FreeSync Premium Pro with 48 – 240Hz VRR range plus LFC. Other aspects of note include a 1000:1 static contrast, 178°/178° viewing angles and 10-bit (8-bit + FRC) colour. A flicker-free WLED backlight provides 98% DCI-P3 gamut coverage and 400 cd/m² (600 cd/m² HDR peak) typical maximum luminance. A suite of well-balanced Low Blue Light (LBL) settings are included to provide a potentially more relaxing viewing experience, whilst the monitor can respond to HDR10 content at the VESA DisplayHDR 600 level. This allows decent (though not exceptional by HDR standards) brightness output with local dimming for a situational edge in contrast. Based on similar models, we’d expect 32-zone local dimming at most. 10-bit colour and the generous DCI-P3 coverage can also be put to good use for HDR10 content.

A 1ms grey to grey response time is specified, alongside a 1ms MPRT response time using the ‘Blur Reduction’ strobe backlight setting. As usual, don’t pay too much attention to such figures as they’re very misleading. The included stand offers tilt, swivel and limited height adjustment (100mm or 3.94 inches). It can be removed via a quick-release mechanism to reveal 100 x 100mm VESA holes for alternative mounting. Above the port area there’s a 5W subwoofer, completing the TreVolo sound system – which based on our experience with similar systems on other models should offer quite rich and full sound output for integrated monitor speakers. 4 diagonal customisable RGB LED lighting strips surround the port attachment point. The ports face downwards beneath a removable plastic cover and include; DC power input (external ‘power brick’), 2 HDMI 2.1 ports, DP 1.4, a 3.5mm headphone jack and 2 USB 3.0 ports plus Type-B upstream.
