Medium refresh rate QHD models are versatile choices for both work and play. The ViewSonic VX2728J-2K of the OMNI VX28 series is one such offering, with 165Hz refresh rate. The monitor offers simple styling with a relatively slender-legged tripod stand design and extensive use of black matte plastic. The top and side bezels are dual-stage with slender panel border flush with the rest of the screen, plus thin hard plastic outer part. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by buttons which face downwards towards the right side of the bottom bezel.

Lots of matte black plastic

A 27″ 2560 x 1440 (QHD or 1440p) IPS-type panel is used with 165Hz refresh rate. Adaptive-Sync is supported, allowing technologies such as Nvidia ‘G-SYNC Compatible’ and FreeSync Premium to be used with 48 – 165Hz VRR range plus LFC. This model is also AdaptiveSync Display 165 certified and features a matte anti-glare screen surface with 1000:1 static contrast ratio, 178°/178° viewing angles and 10-bit (8-bit + FRC) colour support. A flicker-free WLED backlight provides a 90% DCI-P3 (131% sRGB) colour gamut and 250 cd/m² typical maximum luminance. Low Blue Light (LBL) settings are included to promote a more relaxing viewing experience. The monitor responds to HDR10 content, allowing it to put the reasonable gamut to use alongside 10-bit colour processing. But there’s a limited brightness and no contrast enhancement from local dimming specified – so an extremely basic level of HDR support.

A 0.5ms MPRT response time is specified using the included strobe backlight setting, a figure which as usual you should pay little attention to. The stand is fully adjustable, including 130mm (5.12 inches) height adjustment and pivot into portrait. It can be removed and an alternative 100 x 100mm VESA compatible solution used instead. The ports face downwards and include; DC power input (external ‘power brick’), 2 HDMI 2.0 ports, DP 1.4 and a 3.5mm audio output. 2 x 2W speakers are included for basic sound output.

VESA mounting supported

Further details can be found on the manufacturer’s website. The monitor is listed for ~$250 USD.
