OLED monitors are excellent candidates for high refresh rate gaming, but they also offer strong image characteristics outside of that. The Samsung Odyssey OLED G50SF (G5 / S27FG50) is built with this in mind. Dark-coloured materials are used thought, including for the low-profile stand base. The top and side bezels are dual-stage, with slim panel border flush with the rest of the screen plus thin hard outer component. An ‘active area’ (overprovisioning of pixels) between the image and panel border is used for one of the image retention mitigation measures. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by a joystick at the rear of the screen, towards the central region.

A 26.5″ 2560 x 1440 (QHD or 1440p) Samsung Display QD-OLED panel is used with 180Hz refresh rate and Adaptive-Sync VRR support. This allows VRR technologies such as Nvidia ‘G-SYNC Compatible’ and AMD FreeSync to be used, with 48 – 180Hz VRR range plus LFC. The screen has a matte finish rather than the usual QD-OLED glossy anti-reflective treatment. Other points of note include a 1m:1 static contrast ratio, 178°/178° viewing angles and 10-bit colour support. The screen is ‘flicker-free’ with 99% DCI-P3 colour gamut and 200 cd/m² typical maximum luminance. The monitor provides a dynamic HDR10 experience with 10-bit colour, a generous colour gamut and per-pixel illumination put to good use. Higher brightness peaks are also offered, though no figure is officially specified for this model. A 0.03ms grey to grey response time is specified, with OLED technology known for exceptional pixel responsiveness. The stand is tilt-only, with 100 x 100mm VESA holes included centrally for alternative mounting. The ports face backwards and include; a 3.5mm headphone jack, HDMI 2.0, DP 1.4 and a DC power input (external ‘power brick’).
