Further information on supporting our work.QHD IPS models are often sought after for their mix of strong colour performance and responsiveness, particularly attractive for gaming if they also run at an elevated refresh rate. The Samsung Odyssey G53F (G5 / S27FG53 series) provides this, with a 200Hz refresh rate offering a middle-ground solution between ~165Hz and 240Hz offerings. The monitor has a simple design, with chunky-looking dark matte plastics used for both the stand and bottom bezel. The top and side bezels are dual-stage, with reasonably thin panel border flush with the rest of the screen plus thin hard plastic outer component. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by a downwards-facing joystick, beneath the central region of the bottom bezel.
A 27″ 2560 x 1440 (QHD or 1440p) IPS panel is used with 200Hz refresh rate and Adaptive-Sync VRR support. This allows VRR technologies such as Nvidia ‘G-SYNC Compatible’ and AMD FreeSync Premium to be used, with 48 – 180Hz VRR range plus LFC. Other aspects of the specification include a matte anti-glare screen surface, 1000:1 static contrast ratio, 178°/178° viewing angles and 8-bit colour. A WLED backlight with specified ~sRGB colour gamut and a 300 cd/m² typical maximum luminance is used. The monitor offers a basic HDR10 experience, allowing it to use 10-bit colour processing for a different look to things. But the colour gamut and brightness is very limited for HDR and no local dimming is specified. A 1ms MPRT response time is specified using a strobe backlight setting. A tilt-only stand is included, with 75 x 75mm VESA holes included for alternative mounting. The ports face downwards beneath the VESA holes and include; a DC power input (external ‘power brick’), 2 HDMI 2.0 ports, DP 1.4 and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Further details can be found on the manufacturer’s website. The monitor is listed for ~$250 USD.
