For immersion and a large work space, some like high resolution 42″+ screens. The Samsung S43CG70 (S43CG700) of the Odyssey Neo G7 (G70NC) series provides a large screen ‘4K’ UHD experience. HDMI 2.1 is also included, offering 120Hz ‘4K’ UHD support (and likely integrated VRR support) for games consoles such as the Xbox Series X and PS5. The monitor offers some of the usual Odyssey styling elements, though has a much simpler stand base than some offerings. There are ‘Infinity Core Lighting’ RGB LED cheek pieces either side of the bottom bezel. The top and side bezels include the popular dual-stage bezel design, with slim panel border flush with the rest of the screen plus thin hard plastic outer part. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by directional buttons beneath the centre of the bottom bezel or using the included IR remote. An ambient light sensor is also included, allowing the monitor to adjust its image according to ambient lighting.

Odyssey meets TV aesthetics

The monitor uses a ~43″ ‘4K’ UHD (3840 x 2160) VA panel with 4250:1 static contrast ratio. A 144Hz refresh rate is supported, alongside Adaptive-Sync – including AMD FreeSync Premium Pro with 48 – 144Hz VRR range plus LFC. A matte anti-glare screen surface is employed, whilst 178°/178° viewing angles and 10-bit colour support is specified. A flicker-free Quantum Dot Mini LED backlight solution (marketed as ‘Quantum Matrix’) features with unspecified number of zones. The marketing image appears to depict ~2200 dimming zones, but the monitor actually includes 360 zones. A 400 cd/m² (600 cd/m²+ HDR peak) typical maximum luminance is specified alongside a 95% DCI-P3 colour gamut. The monitor is VESA DisplayHDR 600 certified, allowing it to put its local dimming and reasonably wide gamut to work alongside 10-bit colour support and some decent bursts of brightness for HDR10 content.

Low Blue Light (LBL) settings are included to promote a more relaxing viewing experience. A 1ms MPRT response time (caution advised) is specified using the included ‘MBR’ strobe backlight setting. The monitor is mainly white at the rear, with the stand offering tilt as the only ergonomic flexibility but 200 x 200mm VESA included for alternative mounting. An AC power input (internal power converter) faces to the right, as viewed from the rear. The remaining ports face left as viewed from the rear and include; 2 USB 3.0 ports (plus Type-B upstream), a 3.5mm headphone jack, DP 1.4 (with DSC), 2 HDMI 2.1 ports and an ethernet LAN port. ‘Smart Hub’ features are included, accessible via WiFi or ethernet, without a system connected. Apps include Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, ‘Samsung TV Plus’ and ‘Gaming Hub’. Bluetooth is also supported and integrated 20W stereo speakers are included for convenience.
