High refresh rate IPS models are often considered the ‘jack of all trades’ in the monitor world, providing a solution for everything from competitive gaming to photo editing and productivity. The Samsung Odyssey G60F (G6 / S27FG60 series) provides such an experience, with a 350Hz IPS panel wrapped up in homely design. The top and side bezels are dual-stage, with slim panel border flush with the rest of the screen plus thin hard plastic outer component. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by a downwards-facing joystick, beneath the central region of the bottom bezel.

Homely styling

A 27″ 2560 x 1440 (QHD or 1440p) IPS panel is used with 350Hz refresh rate and VRR support, including Adaptive-Sync and HDMI 2.1. This allows VRR technologies such as Nvidia ‘G-SYNC Compatible’ and AMD FreeSync Premium to be used, with 48 – 350Hz VRR range plus LFC assumed. A 120Hz ‘4K’ UHD signal with HDR and VRR can also be used on modern consoles including the Xbox Series X and PS5. Other aspects of note include a matte anti-glare screen surface, 1000:1 static contrast ratio, 178°/178° viewing angles and 8-bit colour. A flicker-free WLED backlight provides 99% sRGB coverage and a 350 cd/m² (400 cd/m²+ HDR peak) typical maximum luminance. The monitor offers a basic HDR10 experience, at the VESA DisplayHDR 400 level. It can use 10-bit colour processing for a different look to things, but there’s no requirement for a particularly generous gamut or high brightness by HDR standards. And no local dimming is specified. A 1ms grey to grey response time is specified, whilst a fully adjustable stand and VESA 100 mounting provision is included for ergonomic flexibility. The stand includes 120mm (4.72 inches) height adjustment and pivot into portrait. The ports face backwards beneath the stand attachment point and include; a 3.5mm headphone jack, HDMI 2.1, DP 1.4 (with DSC) and a DC power input (external ‘power brick’).

Simple rear design
