Some users enjoy the immersion and overall image performance provided by ~32″ QHD VA monitors. The Samsung Odyssey G5 G55C (S32CG55 with various regional suffixes) provides this experience, with steep curve added to the mix to help aid immersion. The monitor has a familiar aesthetic with a lot of dark matte plastics, chunky-looking bottom bezel with cheek pieces (no RGB LEDs) and large ‘penguin-foot’ stand. The top and side bezels are dual-stage, with slim panel border flush with the rest of the screen plus thin hard plastic outer part. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by a joystick which faces downwards beneath the centre of the bottom bezel.

A ~32″ VA panel is included with 2560 x 1440 (QHD or 1440p) resolution and 1000R (steep) steep curve, designed to provide extra immersion. A 2500:1 static contrast ratio, 178°/178° viewing angles and 8-bit colour are specified. A 165Hz refresh rate is supported alongside Adaptive-Sync, allowing VRR technologies such as Nvidia ‘G-SYNC Compatible’ and AMD FreeSync to be used with 48 – 165Hz VRR range (plus LFC). A flicker-free WLED backlight is used which offers a 300 cd/m² typical maximum luminance, though no colour gamut is specified. Low Blue Light (LBL) settings are included which may further aid viewing comfort. Basic HDR10 support is provided, which doesn’t require the high brightness, local dimming or the generous gamut of a true HDR experience. But allows the screen to respond to HDR content with 10-bit colour processing. A 1ms MPRT response time is specified using the MBR (Motion Blur Reduction) strobe backlight setting. ‘Low Input Lag’ is also noted in the product specifications. 75 x 75mm VESA holes included for alternative mounting, but the included stand is limited to tilt as the only ergonomic flexibility. The ports face downwards and include; a 3.5mm headphone jack, HDMI 2.0, DP 1.4 and DC power input (external ‘power brick’).

Further details can be found on the manufacturer’s website. The monitor is listed for the equivalent of ~$240 USD.

Caution: Current retailer listings may point to the older ‘G55T’ rather than ‘G55C’ model.
