Further information on supporting our work. It’s common to see ‘4K’ UHD monitors stop at 32″, with the next size up being TV-sized panels (or simply TVs) of 42″ or larger. The LG UltraGear 37G800A-B (‘B’ denoting black rear) addresses this gap, for those wanting an intermediate screen size of 37″. The monitor has ‘unfussy’ styling, with a low-profile stand base and slim wide neck design. The top and side bezels are dual-stage, with a fairly slim panel border flush with the rest of the screen plus thin hard outer part. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by a joystick facing downwards in the central region of the bottom bezel.
A 37″ VA panel with 3840 x 2160 (‘4K’ UHD) resolution and 165Hz refresh rate is used, with fairly strong (1000R) curve to help draw you into the experience. VRR support is provided via Adaptive-Sync and HDMI 2.1 VRR, allowing technologies including AMD FreeSync and Nvidia ‘G-SYNC Compatible’ to be used, with 48 – 165Hz VRR range plus LFC. HDMI 2.1 also allows a ‘4K’ UHD signal with VRR to be used by games consoles like the Xbox Series X and PS5. A matte anti-glare screen surface is employed, whilst a 4000:1 static contrast ratio and 10-bit colour is specified. A flicker-free (‘flicker safe’) WLED backlight provides 95% DCI-P3 gamut coverage and a 400 cd/m² (600 cd/m²+ HDR peak) typical maximum luminance. The monitor is VESA DisplayHDR 600 compliant, allowing some stronger brightness pulses under HDR and potentially allowing the decent gamut and 10-bit colour support to be used well. Some form of (likely edge-lit) local dimming is also required.
A 1ms grey to grey response time is specified, an aggressive specification for a VA model. An RGB LED lighting element is located at the rear, surrounding the stand attachment point. The stand attaches centrally and can be detached via quick-release to reveal provision for 100 x 100mm VESA mounting. The included stand offers tilt, swivel and height adjustment (110mm or 4.33 inches). The ports face downwards beneath a removable plastic cover and include; 2 HDMI 2.1 ports, DP 1.4 (with DSC), USB-C (65W PD, DP Alt Mode and upstream data), 2 USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports, a 3.5mm headphone jack and DC power input (external ‘power brick’).
Further details (Korean, requires translation) can be found on the manufacturer’s website. The monitor is listed for ~$800 USD.
