Glossy WOLED displays offer an interesting alternative to QD-OLEDs. Specifically, for those who enjoy glossy screen surfaces without the same ‘lightening up’ in brighter conditions that QD-OLEDs suffer from. The LG UltraGear 27GX704A-B offers this experience, with a glossy WOLED screen – as an LG branded alternative to the ASUS ROG Strix OLED XG27AQDMG. The monitor offers minimalistic styling, with low-profile and relatively compact stand base. Slender bezels are found at all sides, with the bottom bezel including a protrusion which houses some of the monitor electronics (and based on similar products likely includes an ambient light sensor). The top and side bezels are ‘dual stage’ with slim panel border flush with the rest of the screen. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by a joystick beneath the central region of the bottom bezel.

Minimalistic styling

A 26.5″ 2560 x 1440 (QHD or 1440p) LG Display WOLED panel is adopted, supporting a 240Hz refresh rate alongside VRR. Adaptive-Sync and HDMI 2.1 VRR support is included, allowing technologies such as AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and Nvidia ‘G-SYNC Compatible’ to be used, with expected 48 – 240Hz VRR range plus LFC. VRR is also supported on the PS5, which lacks Adaptive-Sync support. Panel specifications include a 1.5m:1 static contrast ratio, 178°/178° viewing angles and 10-bit colour support. The monitor is flicker-free with specified 98.5% DCI-P3 colour gamut and expected 1300 cd/m² HDR Peak luminance. A dynamic HDR10 experience is provided at the VESA DisplayHDR TrueBlack 400 level, with higher peak brightness modes included. The monitor can make good use of its per-pixel illumination, generous gamut and 10-bit colour support under HDR – alongside some decent brightness peaks. A 0.03ms grey to grey response time is specified, with OLED technology known to be very strong in this area. The included stand offers full adjustability including height adjustment and pivot into portrait, with VESA 100 support also included. The ports face downwards beneath the stand attachment point and include; 2 HDMI 2.1 ports, DP 1.4, 2 USB 3.2 Gen1 ports (plus Type-B upstream) and a DC power input (external ‘power brick’). A downwards facing 3.5mm headphone jack with DTX Headphone:X support is also included.

The ports

The monitor is listed on some regional pages for the manufacturer (such as their Japanese one, requires translation). It’s listed for ~$800 in the US.
