LG 32UQ85R 4K IPS with Enhanced Contrast IPS Panel

The LG 32UQ85R provides this, a member of the UltraFine series aimed at professionals dealing with colour-critical workloads. The monitor includes the usual modern styling associated with many of the brand’s recent models, with silver-coloured stand featuring a crescent design and a simple matte black bottom bezel. The top and side bezels are dual-stage with a slim panel border flush with the rest of the screen plus a slim hard plastic outer part. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by a joystick facing downwards in the centre of the bottom bezel.
A 31.5″ 3840 x 2160 (‘4K’ UHD) ‘Nano IPS Black’ panel is adopted with 60Hz refresh rate. Adaptive-Sync is supported, including AMD FreeSync with a 48 – 60Hz VRR range assumed. A 2000:1 static contrast is specified (double the usual 1000:1 for this panel type), with the manufacturer mentioning “Deep Black from Sides” as a feature. This suggests a special polarising filter is used to reduce ‘IPS glow’. Other aspects of note include a factory calibration plus support for hardware calibration using ‘Calibration Studio’ software. A detachable self-calibration device is included for this purpose, or an alternative compatible calibration device can be used instead. A 98% DCI-P3 gamut is specified alongside a 400 cd/m² typical maximum luminance. VESA DisplayHDR 400 support is included, allowing the monitor to respond to HDR10 content and put its relatively generous colour gamut to good use with 10-bit colour processing. It doesn’t necessitate local dimming to enhance contrast, however.
A 5ms grey to grey response time is specified, which as usual you shouldn’t put too much weight on. The included stand attaches via a quick-release mechanism and provides tilt, height and pivot adjustment. It can be removed to reveal 100 x 100mm VESA holes for alternative mounting, if preferred. The ports include; DC power input (external ‘power brick’), DP 1.4, 2 HDMI 2.0 ports, USB-C (96W PD, DP Alt Mode) and 2 USB ports (plus upstream). 2 x 5W MaxxAudio speakers are included for potentially fairly rich sound output.
