Further information on supporting our work. The ultrawide format combined with the excellent responsiveness and image quality of OLED can provide a very enjoyable gaming experience. The Gigabyte MO34WQC36 offers this experience, opting for a new generation QD-OLED panel with various enhancements over older QD-OLED models. The monitor has the simple coated metal stand we’ve come to enjoy on various Gigabyte models, whilst the top and side bezels have a dual stage design. They include a black panel border plus a slim hard outer part, with an ‘active area’ (overprovisioning of pixels) used for the pixel shifting image retention mitigation measure. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by a joystick and shortcut keys behind the central region of the bottom bezel.
A 34″ Samsung Display QD-OLED panel is used with 3440 x 1440 (21:9 ultrawide) resolution and 1800R (fairly gentle) curve to draw you in a bit. A 360Hz refresh rate is supported, alongside VRR. This includes Adaptive-Sync and HDMI 2.1 VRR, allowing technologies such as Nvidia ‘G-SYNC Compatible’ and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro to be used with assumed 48 – 360Hz VRR range plus LFC. This model uses a vertical RGB stripe arrangement for subpixels, which panel manufacturer Samsung refers to as ‘V-Stripe’. This is designed to massively reduce or eliminate fringing issues caused by the traditional triangle RGB layout of QD-OLEDs. The screen surface is glossy with anti-reflective treatment, including ‘ObsidianShield’ film to reduce lightening up of the screen surface in ambient light alongside superior scratch resistance. Other aspects of note include a 1.5m:1 static contrast ratio, 178°/178° viewing angles, 10-bit colour and 0.03ms grey to grey response time. The monitor is ‘flicker-free’, with 300 cd/m² (1300 cd/m² HDR peak, 3% APL) typical maximum luminance – a notable improvement from the usual 200 cd/m² (1000 cd/m² HDR peak) typically specified for the panel technology. A 99% DCI-P3 colour gamut is specified.
The monitor offers a lively HDR10 experience with its generous gamut, 10-bit colour and per-pixel dimming put to good use. VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500 certification is included – requiring higher brightness levels, including full screen white brightness, than the more common True Black 400 certification. HDR settings with higher brightness peaks are also included. The stand offers tilt, swivel and height adjustment (130mm or 5.12 inches) and can be removed to make way for alternative 100 x 100mm VESA mounting if preferred. The ports face downwards and include; a 3.5mm headphone jack, 2 HDMI 2.1 ports (48 Gbps, full bandwidth), DP 2.1 (UHBR 20, full bandwidth), USB-C (18W PD, DP Alt Mode, upstream data), 2 USB 3.2 Gen1 ports (plus Type-B upstream) and AC power input (internal power converter). KVM is supported, 2 x 3W speakers are included and the 3-year warranty included with the monitor covers burn-in for peace of mind.

Further details can be found on the manufacturer’s website. Details on price and availability still to come.
