For competitive gaming a solid 240Hz experience can be very attractive. Although some models offer an even higher refresh rate, even achieving a consistent 240fps can be challenging in some titles or with some systems. The BenQ ZOWIE XL2546X is designed to deliver a responsive experience at up to 240Hz. The monitor has quite a ‘sensible’ design for a gaming monitor, with liberal use of matte black plastic. And a dark red plastic piece for the join between the stand base and neck, for a little visual contrast. The base of the stand is quite compact, so you don’t lose too much desk space. A detachable ‘Shielding Hood’ is included, with adjustable wings either side of the screen to hamper the peeking ability of others sitting to your sides. The OSD (On Screen Display) can be controlled by a joystick and buttons at the rear, towards the bottom right as viewed from the front. Or with a wired ‘S Switch’ remote for added convenience.

Detachable 'Shielding Hood' included

A 24.5″ ‘Fast TN’ panel is used with 1920 x 1080 (Full HD or 1080p) resolution and support for a 240Hz refresh rate plus VRR. The screen has a matte anti-glare screen surface for effective glare handling, whilst a 1000:1 static contrast ratio specified. A flicker-free WLED backlight provides a typical maximum luminance of 320 cd/m² and ~sRGB colour gamut. BenQ have decided not to specify a pixel response time, and they’ve said in the past that’s because it can lead to comparisons with very misleading figures such as ‘0.5ms’ specified for IPS alternatives. They’ve included their 3rd generation ‘DyAc 2’ (DyAc+ was 2nd generation) strobe backlight technology, though, which can be used instead of VRR if you wish. This is marketed as offering “dual backlight technology” to minimise strobe crosstalk.

The included offers tilt and swivel adjustment alongside a generous 155mm (6.10 inches) height adjustment with “industrial-grade bearings” for the height adjustment mechanism. The stand attaches via a quick-release mechanism and can be removed by pressing a button beneath the attachment point. You can then use alternative 100 x 100mm VESA mounting, if you wish. The ports face backwards in a recessed area beneath the stand attachment point and include; AC power input (internal power converter), a 3.5mm headphone jack, 2 HDMI 2.0 ports and DP 1.4.

The image below (from manufacturers website) appears to be from the higher end model as it shows 3 HDMI ports, but the rear is otherwise the same.

Further details can be found on the manufacturer’s website. The monitor will be available from 15th Jan 2024 for ~$500 USD.
