The BenQ ZOWIE XL2586X is built with this in mind, bumping refresh rate all the way up to 540Hz. The screen uses plenty of matte black plastic with a small dark red join between stand base and neck for a touch of contrast. The stand base has a relatively compact design, minimising loss of desk space. The monitor includes a detachable ‘Shielding Hood’, with adjustable wings either side of the screen to hamper the peeking ability of others sitting to your sides. The OSD (On Screen Display) can be controlled by a joystick and buttons at the rear, towards the bottom right as viewed from the front. Or with a wired ‘S Switch’ remote for added convenience.
A 24.1″ ‘Fast TN’ panel is used with 1920 x 1080 (Full HD or 1080p) resolution and support for a 540Hz refresh rate alongside VRR. A matte anti-glare screen surface is included, with 1000:1 static contrast ratio specified. A flicker-free WLED backlight is included which “improves color performance by 35%” compared to a “regular TN panel” (~125% sRGB expected based on PG248QP) and offers a typical maximum luminance of 320 cd/m². Unlike on the ASUS, HDR is not supported and a G-SYNC module isn’t included for ‘full fat G-SYNC’ or ULMB 2 support. BenQ has included their 3rd generation ‘DyAc 2’ (DyAc+ was 2nd generation) strobe backlight technology, though, which can be used instead of VRR if you wish. This is marketed as offering “dual backlight technology” to minimise strobe crosstalk.
BenQ have decided not to specify a pixel response time, and they’ve said in the past that’s because it can lead to comparisons with very misleading figures such as ‘0.5ms’ specified for IPS alternatives. The included stand offers tilt, swivel and a generous 155mm (6.10 inches) height adjustment with “industrial-grade bearings” for its height adjustment mechanism. The stand attaches via a quick-release mechanism and can be removed by pressing a button beneath the attachment point. This reveals provision for 100 x 100mm VESA mounting. The ports face backwards in a recessed area beneath the stand attachment point and include; AC power input (internal power converter), a 3.5mm headphone jack, 3 HDMI 2.1 ports and DP 1.4.
