Further information on supporting our work.High refresh rate 2560 x 1440 (QHD) models are very versatile options for both work and play. The ASUS XG27AQMR of the ROG Strix series is built around this premise, pushing the refresh rate up to 300Hz. Dark matte plastics are the material of choice, with a ‘penguin-foot’ stand design. The top and side bezels are ‘dual-stage’, with slender panel border flush with the rest of the screen and slim hard plastic outer part. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by a joystick and buttons at the rear of the screen, towards the right side as viewed from the front.
A 27″ 2560 x 1440 (QHD or 1440p) IPS-type panel is used with support for a 300Hz refresh rate, more specifically the Innolux M270KMA-EFB. Adaptive-Sync features, allowing technologies including AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and ‘G-SYNC Compatible’ to be used, with 48 – 300Hz VRR range plus LFC. The monitor is also AdaptiveSync Display 300 certified. A matte anti-glare screen surface is adopted with 1000:1 static contrast ratio, 178°/178° viewing angles and 10-bit colour support specified. The monitor is factory calibrated with a specified DeltaE <2. A flicker-free WLED backlight provides a 97% DCI-P3 (120% sRGB) colour gamut and 350 cd/m² (600 cd/m² HDR peak) typical maximum luminance. The monitor responds to HDR10 content at the VESA DisplayHDR 600 level, allowing it to put the good DCI-P3 coverage to use alongside 10-bit colour and reasonable pulses of brightness. Basic local dimming is also required at this HDR level, for a situational contrast enhancement.
A 1ms grey to grey response time is specified, but as usual don’t put too much weight on such figures. Variable overdrive is also noted, which is able to re-tune the acceleration levels for lower refresh rates to reduce overshoot. ELMB Sync is included, a strobe backlight setting which can be used alongside Adaptive-Sync if you wish. The stand attaches centrally and is fully adjustable, including 110mm (4.33 inches) height adjustment and pivot into portrait. It can be removed using a quick-release mechanism to reveal provision for 100 x 100mm VESA mounting. The ports face downwards and include; DC power input (external ‘power brick’), 2 HDMI 2.0 ports, DP 1.4 ports, 2 USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports (plus Type-B upstream) and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Further details are available on the manufacturer’s website. The monitor is listed for ~$675 USD.
