A strong HDR performance is a pivotal part of the experience for some users. The AOC Q27G3XMN (Q27G3XMN/BK for European market) is built with a dynamic HDR performance at a budget price in mind. The monitor has a dark silver-coloured stand base (black for /BK model) with long front legs and shorter back legs. Matte black plastic with interspersed dark metallic-effect red plastics are used elsewhere. The top and side bezels are dual-stage with slim panel border flush with the rest of the screen plus thin hard plastic outer component. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by buttons facing downwards towards the right side of the bottom bezel.
A 27″ VA panel is used with 2560 x 1440 (QHD or 1440p) resolution and 180Hz refresh rate. Adaptive-Sync is supported, allowing VRR technologies including AMD FreeSync and Nvidia ‘G-SYNC Compatible’ to be used with 48 – 180Hz VRR range plus LFC. A 4000:1 static contrast ratio is specified alongside 178°/178° viewing angles and 10-bit colour support. A 336-zone FALD (Full Array Local Dimming) QD LED backlight is adopted, referred to by the manufacturer as ‘Mini LED’ – though with this number of dimming zones that terminology is debatable. This provides a typical maximum luminance of 450 cd/m² (1000 cd/m² HDR peak) and 96% DCI-P3 (134% sRGB) colour gamut. An sRGB emulation mode is included (non-BK model) with specified DeltaE <2.
The monitor is VESA DisplayHDR 1000 certified, allowing it to put its dynamic backlighting solution to good use with local dimming and good brightness pulses. It can also put its fairly generous DCI-P3 coverage and 10-bit colour to good use. A 1ms grey to grey response time is specified, but this must be taken with a large dose of salt. ‘Low Input Lag’ is also noted. The stand offers full adjustability including 130mm (5.12 inches) height adjustment and pivot into portrait. It can be detached using a quick-release mechanism to reveal 100 x 100mm VESA holes for alternative mounting. The ports face downwards and include; 2 HDMI 2.0 ports, DP 1.4, a 3.5mm audio output and AC power input (internal power converter).
