The 2560 x 1440 (QHD or 1440p) resolution is most commonly found on 27 – 32″ models – it’s a versatile resolution for both work and play. Some prefer a more compact screen size without sacrificing their resolution, which is where the AOC Q25G4SR comes in with its 24.5″ QHD panel. This member of the ‘G4’ series includes a polygonal stand base design and mixes dark matte and red plastics. The top and side bezels are dual-stage, with slim panel border flush with the rest of the screen plus thin hard outer part. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by buttons on the underside of the bottom bezel, towards the right side.

'G4' styling

A 24.5″ IPS-type panel is used with 2560 x 1440 (QHD or 1440p) resolution and support for a 300Hz refresh rate. Adaptive-Sync VRR support is included, allowing technologies such as Nvidia ‘G-SYNC Compatible’ and AMD FreeSync to be used with 48 – 300Hz VRR range plus LFC. HDMI 2.1 VRR support is also assumed, allowing VRR to be used on devices such as the PS5 which don’t support Adaptive-Sync. A matte anti-glare screen surface is included and a 1000:1 static contrast ratio, 178°/178° viewing angles and 8-bit colour specified. A flicker-free WLED backlight provides a 400 cd/m² typical maximum luminance alongside 91.3% DCI-P3 (114.7% sRGB) colour gamut. Low Blue Low (LBL) settings also feature, promoting a potentially more relaxing viewing experience. The monitor responds to HDR10 content in a basic way, at the VESA DisplayHDR 400 level. It lacks specified local dimming or a high brightness by HDR standards, but the reasonable gamut can be put to potentially good use alongside 10-bit colour processing.

A 1ms grey to grey response time is specified alongside a 0.3ms MPRT response time (using the MBR strobe backlight setting). ‘Low Input Lag’ is also noted. The stand is fully adjustable, including 130mm (5.12 inches) height adjustment and pivot into portrait. The stand attaches centrally via a quick-release mechanism and can be removed to reveal provision for 100 x 100mm VESA mounting. The ports face downwards and include; an AC power input (internal power converter), 2 HDMI 2.1 ports, DP 1.4 and a 3.5mm headphone jack. 2 x 2W speakers are included for basic sound output and 2-device PiP/PbP is supported.
