QHD IPS models are versatile choices, combining strong colour credentials with respectable pixel responsiveness. The AOC Q24B36X is built with this in mind, focusing on a relatively small (and therefore pixel-dense) screen. The monitor uses chunky dark matte plastics and includes dual-stage bezels at the top and sides – with slim panel border flush with the rest of the screen plus a thin hard plastic outer part. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by buttons which face downwards towards the left side of the bottom bezel. Which is unusual placement for these controls.

A 23.8″ 2560 x 1440 (QHD or 1440p) IPS panel is used with 144Hz refresh rate and Adaptive-Sync VRR support. This allows VRR technologies such as Nvidia ‘G-SYNC Compatible’ and AMD FreeSync to be used, with 48 – 144Hz VRR range plus LFC assumed. Other aspects of the specification include a matte anti-glare screen surface, 1300:1 static contrast ratio, 178°/178° viewing angles and 8-bit colour. A flicker-free WLED backlight provides a 300 cd/m² typical maximum luminance and 88.8% DCI-P3 (114.7% sRGB) colour gamut. Low Blue Light (LBL) settings are included to promote a more relaxing viewing experience. The monitor responds to HDR10 content in a basic way, allowing it to leverage 10-bit colour processing for a different look to things. Though the brightness and colour gamut is very limited for HDR and no local dimming is specified. A 4ms grey to grey response time is specified, alongside a 0.5ms MPRT response time specified using a strobe backlight setting. A tilt-only stand is included, with 100 x 100m VESA holes included for alternative mounting. The ports face backwards beneath the VESA holes and include; a DC power input (external ‘power brick’), HDMI 2.0, DP 1.4 and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
