Further information on supporting our work. With graphical capabilities improving for both PC and games consoles, the combination of ‘4K’ UHD resolution and high refresh rate can be an attractive prospect. The AOC AG324UX of the AGON PRO series is built with this in mind. With HDMI 2.1 broadening its appeal to console gamers as well as PC gamers, allowing it to run ‘4K’ UHD @120Hz on the PS5 and Xbox Series X. The monitor marks itself as a ‘gaming monitor’, aesthetically, with a brushed-effect matte black plastic bottom bezel with dark red plastic AGON logo. A customisable ‘Light FX’ RGB LED light bar is also included, along with an LED light projector. This projects one of two logo designs onto the desk in a colour of your choice. The stand has a coated metal ‘penguin foot’ design for a premium feel. The top and side bezels are ‘dual stage’, with a slender panel border flush with the rest of the screen and a slim hard plastic outer part. The OSD (On Screen Display) can be controlled by a joystick at the rear, towards the right side as viewed from the front. Or alternatively using the included wired OSD remote.
A 31.5″ 3840 x 2160 (‘4K’ UHD) IPS-type panel is employed, with the monitor believed to be based around an Innolux AAS (Azimuthal Anchoring Switch) panel more specifically. A 144Hz refresh rate is supported alongside HDMI 2.1 VRR and Adaptive-Sync. This includes ‘G-SYNC Compatible Mode’ support and AMD FreeSync Premium certification, with a 48 – 144Hz VRR range plus LFC. The inclusion of HDMI 2.1 allows games consoles such as the PS5 and Xbox Series X to use a 120Hz ‘4K’ signal. Other aspects of note include a matte anti-glare screen, 1000:1 static contrast ratio, 178°/178° viewing angles and 10-bit (8-bit + FRC) colour support. A flicker-free WLED backlight delivers a typical maximum luminance of 350 cd/m² and a claimed 99.8% DCI-P3 colour gamut. The monitor responds to HDR10 content, with VESA DisplayHDR 400 certification. The most basic level of VESA HDR certification. It allows 10-bit colour to be used with a 400 cd/m²+ peak luminance and also allows the generous colour gamut to be put to good use. Local dimming is not required at this level, though similar models do offer basic 16-zone local dimming so that may be used here.
A 1ms grey to grey response time is specified (approach with caution), with a 1ms MPRT response time also specified using the MBR (Motion Blur Reduction) strobe backlight mode. A Low Input Lag setting is included. The rear of the screen combines matte black plastic with distinctive red highlights. The red ‘cheek’ elements shown in the image are actually customisable ‘Light FX’ RGB LED light strips. The stand attaches centrally and can be easily removed using a quick-release mechanism, revealing 100 x 100mm VESA holes for alternative mounting. The stand is fully adjustable, including pivot into portrait and 130mm (5.12 inches) height adjustment. The ports face downwards and include; DC power input (external ‘power brick’), 2 HDMI 2.1 ports, DP 1.4 (with DSC), USB-C (90W PD, DP Alt Mode, upstream data), 4 USB 3.2 ports plus upstream, a 3.5mm headphone jack and 3.5mm microphone jack. 2 x 8W DTS speakers are included for potentially rich and powerful sound output. KVM functionality is included, allowing connected USB peripherals and the monitor to be switched between multiple systems. PiP and PbP is also supported.
Further details can be found on the manufacturer’s website. The monitor has a £899.99 RRP. It is not currently listed in the US.
