QHD models with VA panels offer the sort of performance characteristics some user crave. The AOC CQ27G2S (CQ27G2S/BK owing to the black stand base) is one such offering, following on from the CQ27G2 and taking on the usual ‘G2 series’ styling. This includes predominantly matte black plastic with a few dark red metallic-effect elements for a bit of visual contrast. The top and side bezels are dual-stage with slim panel border flush with the rest of the screen plus slim hard plastic outer component. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by buttons facing downwards towards the right side of the bottom bezel.

Familiar G2 series aesthetic

A 27″ VA panel is employed with 2560 x 1440 (QHD or 1440p) resolution, 165Hz refresh rate and 1500R (moderate) curve to draw you in a bit. Adaptive-Sync is supported, allowing VRR technologies including AMD FreeSync and Nvidia ‘G-SYNC Compatible’ to be used with 48 – 165Hz VRR range plus LFC. A 4000:1 static contrast ratio, 178°/178° viewing angles and 8-bit colour support are specified. A flicker-free QLED backlight provides a typical maximum luminance of 250 cd/m² and 90% DCI-P3 (121% sRGB) colour gamut. Low Blue Light (LBL) settings are included to promote a more relaxing viewing experience.

A 4ms grey to grey response time is specified plus 1ms MPRT using the MBR strobe backlight setting, figures to be approached with caution as usual. ‘Low Input Lag’ is also noted. The stand provides tilt, swivel and height (130mm or 5.12 inches) adjustment and can removed using a quick-release catch to reveal provision for 100 x 100mm VESA mounting. The ports face downwards and include; 2 HDMI 2.0 ports, DP 1.4, a 3.5mm audio output and AC power input (internal power converter).

More red touches at the rear

Further details can be found on the manufacturer’s website. The monitor has an MSRP of ~£220, no current word on release in the US though the flat variant (Q27G2S) is listed there for ~$250 USD.
