For competitive gaming, ultra high frame rates and a refresh rate to match can very attractive, increasing both visual and felt fluidity. The Acer Nitro XV242F provides this experience, focusing on speed above all else with an impressively high refresh rate TN panel. The monitor has the usual styling associated with the series, with rounded weighted stand base with matte black finish and black coated metal stand base. A dark metallic-effect red cable tidy is found at the join between the two. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by a joystick and buttons at the rear of the screen, towards the right side as viewed from the front.

Nitro styling

A 24.1″ 1920 x 1080 (Full HD or 1080p) TN panel is adopted with 540Hz refresh rate and support for Adaptive-Sync. Allowing VRR technologies including AMD FreeSync and Nvidia ‘G-SYNC Compatible’ to be used, with assumed 48 – 540Hz VRR range plus LFC. A 1000:1 static contrast ratio and matte anti-glare screen surface is assumed, with 178°/178° viewing angles claimed – though this is an area where TN models are known to be relatively weak. A WLED backlight provides a 99% sRGB colour gamut and 400 cd/m² typical maximum luminance. The monitor responds to HDR10 content at the VESA DisplayHDR 400 level. This doesn’t require high brightness by HDR standards, a generous gamut or local dimming to enhance contrast. Though it allows 10-bit colour processing to be used and gives a different look to things. A 1ms (‘0.1ms min’) grey to grey response time is specified, which as usual isn’t a figure to put too much weight on. The screen attaches to the stand centrally and can be removed to reveal 100 x 100mm VESA holes for alternative mounting. The stand is fully adjustable, including 115mm (4.53 inches) height adjustment and pivot into portrait. The ports face downwards and include DP 1.4, 2 HDMI 2.0 ports and a 3.5mm audio output. 2 x 2W speakers are also included for basic sound reproduction.

VESA mounting supported

The monitor is listed on Chinese retailer Taobao with regular price equivalent to ~$700 USD. Information on international price and availability still to come.
