Further information on supporting our work.There are plenty of benefits to be had from pixel-dense monitors such as those with a 27″ ‘4K’ UHD panels. The Dell S2721Q and S2721QS offer this, with the smart and unfussy design that the company is well known for. The top and side bezels are slender with a ‘dual stage’ design, featuring a slim panel border that’s flush with the rest of the screen plus a slim hard plastic outer component. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by pressable buttons towards the bottom right, facing downwards. There’s also a power button with white ‘vertical slit’ power LED, something of a signature on modern Dell monitors.
A 27″ ‘4K’ UHD (3840 x 2160) panel is used, with LG AH-IPS (Advanced High Performance In-Plane Switching) technology. A light matte anti-glare screen surface is employed for good glare handling without heavily hampering clarity or vibrancy potential, whilst a 1300:1 static contrast is offered alongside 178° horizontal and vertical viewing angles. 10-bit colour is supported via 8-bit + FRC dithering alongside a 60Hz refresh rate. Adaptive-Sync support is also offered, including AMD FreeSync support with a 40 – 60Hz variable refresh rate range. A flicker-free WLED backlight is used, offering 99% sRGB colour space overage and a 350 cd/m² typical maximum luminance. Low Blue Light (LBL) settings including ‘ComfortView’ are included to aid viewing comfort. The monitor also offers basic HDR support – it will respond to HDR10 content, where 10-bit precision is used to enhance the nuanced shade variety. However; it lacks a suitable luminance level, local dimming support or colour gamut for proper HDR output. The ‘Q’ model offers a tilt-only stand, whilst the ‘QS’ model adds height, swivel and pivot adjustment to this. That stand design is the only difference between these models. Both models include quick-release mechanisms for easy removal of the included stand, revealing 100 x 100mm VESA holes for alternative mounting. The ports face downwards and include; AC power input (internal power converter), 2 HDMI 2.0 ports, DP 1.2 and a 3.5mm audio line-out. 2 x 3W speakers are also included for sound output.
