Whilst high refresh rates well into the triple digits are attractive for some users, a slight bump up from the ‘standard’ 60Hz is all others are looking for. The Dell S2721D and S2721DS offer this, packaging things into a very familiar design. The now common dual-stage bezels feature at the top and sides, with a slender panel border that’s flush with the rest of the screen and a slim hard plastic outer component. The bottom bezel is thicker, also housing the OSD (On Screen Display) controls at the right side, facing downwards. A gentle white power LED with the company’s signature ‘vertical slit’ design is also found here.

A smart appearance

A 27″ IPS-type (In-Plane Switching) panel features with 2560 x 1440 (WQHD) resolution and 75Hz refresh rate. Adaptive-Sync is supported, including AMD FreeSync with a 48 – 75Hz variable refresh rate range. Other aspects of note include a matte anti-glare screen surface, 1000:1 static contrast and 178° horizontal and vertical viewing angles. 8-bit colour is supported, whilst a flicker-free WLED backlight is used with 99% sRGB colour gamut coverage and 350 cd/m² typical maximum luminance. Low Blue Light (LBL) settings including ‘ComfortView’ are included to promote enhanced viewing comfort. The rear is a light-coloured textured plastic, with the stand attaching centrally via a quick-release mechanism. It can be removed to make way for an alternative 100 x 100mm VESA compatible solution. The included stand on the ‘D’ model is tilt only and ‘DS’ is fully adjustable – this is the only difference between the two. The ports face downwards and include; 2 HDMI 1.4 ports, DP 1.2 and a 3.5mm audio line-out. 2 x 3W speakers are included as well.
