Further information on supporting our work. We’ve seen a few models now with so-called ‘Super UltraWide’ screens, such as the Samsung C49HG90 and newer C49J890. The Samsung C43J890 (also referred to as C43J89 of the CJ89 series) offers a slightly smaller (but still very wide) screen, with a higher pixel density and slightly higher vertical resolution component. Size aside, the styling of the screen is very similar to the larger 49” brother, with charcoal grey (or ‘Dark Blue Gray’ as Samsung refers to it) matte black plastic used for the bottom bezel and stand. A 3-side frameless ‘dual-stage’ bezel design is used, with a thin panel border surrounding the image and very slim hard outer component to the bezel. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by pressable buttons in the central right region of the bottom bezel.
The monitor uses a 43” 32:10 ‘Super UltraWide’ VA panel with a 3840 x 1200 resolution and 3000:1 static contrast. This compares to the 3840 x 1080 resolution and 32:9 aspect ratio of the larger model. It gives this screen a bit of extra relative height and some extra vertical pixels, but as most games use HOR+ scaling you’ll lose a bit of vertical FOV as well. This model essentially looks like two ~24” 16:10 models side by side without a central bezel (see this comparison). Compare that with two ~27” 16:9 models side by side for the 49” variant. With a pixel density of 93.56 PPI (Pixels Per Inch) it’s also similar to a ~24” 16:10 model in that respect as well, tighter than the the 81.41 PPI of the 49” variants. Other important aspects include the 1800R curve to the screen, designed to enhance immersion and viewing comfort. And a 120Hz refresh rate – although no variable refresh rate technology is supported. A 5ms grey to grey response time is specified (take with salt) and a light matte anti-glare screen surface is presumably used. 178° horizontal and vertical viewing angles are specified and 8-bit colour is supported (likely true 8-bit). A flicker-free WLED backlight is employed which offers a 300 cd/m² maximum luminance and ~sRGB colour gamut (likely some extension beyond for a bit of extra vibrancy). Low Blue Light (LBL) settings also feature, including ‘Eye Saver Mode’.
The rear of the monitor is dark matte plastic with a central attachment point for the stand. The included stand offers good ergonomic flexibility; tilt (2° forwards, 17° back), height adjustment (120mm or 4.72 inches) and swivel (15° left, 15° right). If preferred, you can remove the included stand and attach an alternative 100 x 100mm VESA compatible solution. The ports are down-firing, neatly tucked away behind a removable port cover. These include; HDMI 2.0, DP 1.2, a 3.5mm headphone jack, 3 USB 3.0 ports, 2 USB-C ports and a DC power input (external power brick). There are also 2 x 5W up-firing speakers, providing relatively powerful sound output for integrated monitor speakers. As usual a K-slot also features for added security.
Further information on the monitor can be found on the official product page. The monitor is available for ~$800 USD.
