The ASUS PB (‘Professional’) series is generally well-respected amongst users looking for a well-rounded solution for colour-critical work that doesn’t break the bank. The ASUS PB247Q is a Full HD addition to the line-up, with styling that’s right at home amongst other recent additions to the series. The monitor has a sleek and, well, ‘professional’ look to it. It’s quite angular in its appearance and adopts the now popular ‘dual-stage’ or frameless bezel design – with the bezel split into a very slim hard outer component and a slender panel border around the image. The panel border blends in quite seamlessly when the monitor is switched off and remains a slender addition when the monitor is switched on.

An professional appearance

A 23.8” IPS-type (In-Plane Switching or similar) panel with 1920 x 1080 (Full HD) resolution and 60Hz refresh rate is employed. This offers a 1000:1 static contrast ratio and 178° horizontal and vertical viewing angles. A matte anti-glare screen surface is employed, whilst true 8-bit colour is supported without dithering – something of a rarity for models of this size, panel type and resolution. The monitor comes factory calibrated within the sRGB colour space, with an average DeltaE of <2 promised and 95% uniformity. A 14-bit internal LUT is included for enhanced precision. The backlight is a flicker-free WLED unit with 100% sRGB colour space coverage and 250 cd/m² typical maximum brightness specified. A 5ms grey to grey response time is specified, with the flexible Trace Free pixel overdrive included. Other features of note include 6-axis colour adjustment (RGB plus CMY), 4 gamma settings and a ‘Low Blue Light’ option. The included stand offers good ergonomic flexibility, including; tilt (5° forwards, 35° backwards), swivel (90° left, 90° right), height adjustment (130mm or 5.12 inches) and pivot (90° rotation either direction into portrait). The included stand is attached using a quick-release mechanism and can be removed to be replaced with an alternative 100 x 100mm VESA compatible solution. The ports include; 2 HDMI 1.4 ports, DP 1.2, MiniDP 1.2, DP output (for MST daisy chaining), a 3.5mm headphone jack and 3 USB 3.0 ports (plus upstream). 2 x 1.5W speakers are also included for basic sound output. Further information can be found on the official website. The monitors are now available, although initial availability and price seems to leave a bit to be desired.
