The 3440 x 1440 resolution and 21:9 aspect ratio offers benefits for gaming, the desktop and movie content of an appropriate format. The ViewSonic VX3418-2KPC is one such offering, with a curved VA panel. The monitor has a broad stand base and neck, with dark matte plastics used extensively. The top and side bezels are dual-stage, including a slim panel border flush with the rest of the screen. And a slim hard plastic outer component. The OSD (On Screen Display) controls are buttons at the rear of the monitor, running down the right side as viewed from the front. ‘XG Series’ incorrectly indicated in the marketing image below – this is a ‘VX Series’ model.
This model uses a 34″ 3440 x 1440 (21:9 UltraWide) VA panel with 1500R curve. This is a moderate curve, designed to draw you into the experience for extra immersion whilst potentially enhancing viewing comfort. A light matte anti-glare screen surface is included alongside a 4000:1 static contrast ratio, 178°/178° viewing angles and 8-bit colour (6-bit + FRC). A 144Hz refresh rate is supported, alongside Adaptive-Sync – including AMD FreeSync with a 48 – 144Hz VRR range plus LFC. A WLED backlight provides a 300 cd/m² typical maximum luminance and an assumed ~sRGB colour gamut (based on no gamut information being specified). A ‘Blue Light Filter’ Low Blue Light (LBL) setting is included. HDR10 support is included – very basic HDR support without a suitable brightness, colour gamut, bit-depth or local dimming offered by this model.
A 1ms MPRT response time is specified using the ‘1ms Mode’ strobe backlight setting. The stand includes tilt and a limited amount of height adjustment (80mm or 3.15 inches). A quick-release mechanism allows easy removal of the included stand, revealing 75 x 75mm VESA holes for alternative mounting. The ports face downwards and include; DC power input (external ‘power brick’), 2 HDMI 2.0 ports, 2 DP 1.4 ports and a 3.5mm headphone jack. 2 x 5W speakers are included for potentially fairly rich sound output.
Further details are available on the manufacturer’s website. The monitor is listed for ~$470 USD.
