The Full HD resolution is relatively easy to drive at high refresh rates and by far the most common resolution associated with 24-25″ models. The Samsung S25BG40 (LS25BG40 with additional suffixes, of the Odyssey G4 series) provides such an experience, in IPS flavour. The monitor adopts the usual Odyssey styling, including plenty of dark matte black plastics, a ‘penguin foot’ stand design and prominent cheek pieces at each side of the bottom bezel. Unlike some higher-end Odyssey models, no RGB LEDs are included here. The top and side bezels are dual-stage, with a slim panel border flush with the rest of the screen and thin hard plastic outer part. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by buttons beneath the brand logo in the centre of the bottom bezel. An ‘Eco Light Sensor’ feature is included, allowing the screen to adjust its brightness according to room lighting.

A ~25″ 1920 x 1080 (Full HD or 1080p) IPS-type panel is used. This is accompanied by a matte anti-glare screen surface, 240Hz refresh rate, 1000:1 static contrast ratio and 178°/178° viewing angles. Adaptive-Sync is supported including AMD FreeSync Premium and Nvidia ‘G-SYNC Compatible’, with 48 – 240Hz VRR range plus LFC. 8-bit colour is supported, whilst a flicker-free WLED backlight provides a 99% sRGB colour gamut and 400 cd/m² typical maximum luminance. An ‘Eye Saver Mode’ Low Blue Light (LBL) setting is included to promote a more relaxing viewing experience. Additional features include rapid automatic input switching between sources and a 21:9 aspect setting called ‘Ultrawide Game View’ to expand horizontal FOV, with black bars at the top and bottom.

A 1ms grey to grey response time is specified (approach with caution), whilst a ‘Low Input Lag Mode’ is included. The stand attaches centrally and can be removed to reveal provision for 100 x 100mm VESA mounting. The included stand is fully adjustable, including 120mm (4.72 inches) height adjustment and pivot into portrait. The ports face downwards and include; a 3.5mm headphone jack, 2 HDMI 2.0 ports, DP 1.2a and a DC power input (external ‘power brick’).

Blue 'core', but no RGB LEDs
