OLED technology provides a range of attractive image quality benefits and exceptional pixel responsiveness. The Samsung Odyssey OLED G9 G95SC (S49CG95 with various regional suffixes) provides this, with a very wide QD-OLED panel designed for strong immersion. The monitor shares the minimalistic styling of the smaller OLED G8, with low-profile metal stand base, slim but wide neck and slim bezels on all sides but in particular the top and sides. A dual-stage design is used there, including slim panel border flush with the rest of the screen plus thin hard plastic outer part. The OSD (On Screen Display) can be controlled by directional buttons beneath the central region of the bottom bezel, or alternatively you can use an included IR remote. An ‘Eco Light Sensor’ function allows the screen to adjust brightness according to ambient lighting.

Minimalistic styling

A 49″ Samsung QD-OLED (Quantum Dot OLED) panel is used, with 1800R (moderate) curve, glossy screen surface and 5120 x 1440 resolution (32:9 ultrawide). This is like having 2 x 27″ 16:9 QHD monitors spliced together side by side, both in terms of size and pixel density. A 240Hz refresh rate is supported, alongside Adaptive-Sync – allowing technologies such as Nvidia ‘G-SYNC Compatible’ and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro to be used, with 48 – 240Hz VRR range plus LFC. HDMI 2.1 VRR should also be supported. The monitor has a specified 1m:1 static contrast ratio, 178°/178° viewing angles and 10-bit colour support. The monitor includes a factory calibration, complete with report. It’s ‘flicker-free’ with 250 cd/m² typical maximum luminance and 99% DCI-P3 colour gamut specified – as with other QD-OLEDs we expect strong Adobe RGB coverage as well and a peak luminance under HDR of ~1000 cd/m². The monitor is VESA DisplayHDR True Black 400 specified using the appropriate HDR setting with more limited brightness, too.

A 0.03ms grey to grey response time is specified, with the technology known to be exceptional when it comes to pixel responsiveness even if this exact figure is misleading. The rear of the screen is silver-coloured with a ‘Core Lighting+’ ARGB lighting ring surrounding the attachment point. The included stand offers tilt and height (120mm or 4.72 inches) adjustment and can be removed, with provision for 100 x 100mm VESA mounting included. The ports are located in a recessed area beneath the attachment point and include; 2 USB-C downstream ports (data only), USB-C (DP Alt Mode, upstream data), HDMI 2.1, DP 1.4 (with DSC), Micro HDMI 2.1 and DC power input (external ‘power brick’). ‘Smart Hub’ features are included, accessible via WiFi even without a system connected. Apps include Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, ‘Samsung TV Plus’ and ‘Gaming Hub’. Bluetooth is also supported and integrated 2 x 5W stereo speakers are included for convenience.

Further details can be found on the manufacturer’s website. The monitor is listed for ~$2450 USD (£2000) with release from June 2023. A version without an integrated processor, ‘Smart Hub’ and related features is also listed, the G93SC (S49CG93 with various regional suffixes).
