Many new releases focus on high refresh rates, with 144Hz+ being quite common these days. Not all models focus on this and indeed it isn’t a feature that everyone requires, although many models are focusing on at least shifting away from the ‘standard’ 60Hz refresh rate. The Samsung F27T85 (F27T850 of the T85 series, additional regional suffixes may apply) embraces this trend, offering a slight boost up to 75Hz. Marketed as a ‘Professional Monitor’, the monitor takes on a sleek home-office appearance. The top and side bezels are slender, with the now popular ‘dual-stage’ or ‘3-sided borderless’ design employed. This includes a slim panel border that blends in with the rest of the screen, when it’s switched off at least. And also includes a slender hard plastic outer component. The bottom bezel is thicker, with a brushed-textured black plastic used. A similar material and texture is used for the stand base. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by a joystick at the rear of the monitor, towards the right side as viewed from the front.

A smart appearance

The monitor employs a Samsung PLS (Plane to Line Switching) IPS-type panel with 2560 x 1440 (WQHD) resolution and matte anti-glare finish. A 75Hz refresh rate is supported, alongside Adaptive-Sync – including AMD FreeSync with an assumed 48 – 75Hz variable refresh rate range. 10-bit colour is supported, likely the usual 8-bit + FRC dithering, whilst a 1000:1 static contrast ratio and 178° horizontal and vertical viewing angles are specified. A flicker-free WLED backlight is employed, offering a 350 cd/m² typical maximum luminance and ~sRGB colour space coverage (a bit of extension beyond but no wide gamut support). Low Blue Light (LBL) settings are also included to further enhance viewing comfort. A 4ms grey to grey response time is specified, but as usual don’t pay too much attention to this figure. The included stand offers full ergonomic flexibility and can be removed and replaced by an alternative 100 x 100mm VESA compatible solution if preferred. The ports face downwards beneath a removable port cover and include; AC power input (internal power converter), DP 1.2a, HDMI 1.4 and 2 USB 2.0 ports (plus upstream). Towards the right of the stand attachment point, for easier access, there is a USB 3.0 port and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

A neat rear design
