For mixed use including productivity and a bit of entertainment on the side, 100Hz+ ultrawides can hit the spot. Models like the Philips 346E2CUAE are popular options for their mixture of price and overall performance. The Philips 346E2LAE offers similar styling and features to this, but is an alternative for those preferring flat to curved screens. It has similar aesthetics to other ‘E line’ models, with a simple ‘square ring’ matte black stand base and similar materials used for the neck and bottom bezel. The top and side bezels are dual-stage, including a slim panel border flush with the rest of the screen and slender hard plastic outer part. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by a joystick at the rear, towards the right side as viewed from the front.

Simple E-line styling

A 34″ 3440 x 1440 (UWQHD, 21:9 ultrawide) VA panel is used with support for a 100Hz refresh rate alongside Adaptive-Sync. This allows VRR technologies such as AMD FreeSync and Nvidia ‘G-SYNC Compatible Mode’ to be used, with 48 – 100Hz VRR range plus LFC. A 4000:1 static contrast ratio is specified, with 178°/178 viewing angles, 8-bit colour support and a matte anti-glare screen surface. A flicker-free WLED backlight provides a 300 cd/m² typical maximum luminance and 121.32% sRGB colour gamut. An sRGB emulation mode is included as well as ‘LowBlue Mode’ Low Blue Light (LBL) settings, promoting a more relaxing viewing experience. A 4ms grey to grey response time is specified with a 1ms MPRT response time also specified using a strobe backlight setting. As usual, pay little attention to such figures.

The stand includes tilt and height (100mm or 4.94 inches) adjustment and can be removed to reveal 100 x 100mm VESA holes for alternative mounting. The ports are located beneath and to the right of the stand attachment point and include; DC power input (external ‘power brick’), HDMI 2.0, DP 1.2a, a 3.5mm audio output, USB-C (65W PD, DP Alt Mode, upstream data) and 4 USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports (1 with BC 1.2 fast-charging). The inclusion of data transfer on the USB-C port sets it aside from the ‘CUAE’ which required a separate upstream connection. 2 x 3W speakers are also included for basic sound output, whilst PiP/PbP support is included to allow side by side display for 2 systems simultaneously.

USB-C functionality
