Further information on supporting our work. The 3440 x 1440 UltraWide experience is one which many users enjoy. It’s also a format where curving a screen arguably makes more sense compared to screens with a less wide aspect ratio. The monitor includes a silver-coloured ‘penguin foot’ stand base, made from powder-coated metal. The bottom bezel is dark grey to black matte plastic, with the top and side bezels taking on the popular dual-stage design. This includes a slender panel border that’s flush with the rest of the screen, plus a slim hard plastic outer component. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by a joystick and buttons at the rear of the monitor, towards the right side as viewed from the front. Or alternatively using the ‘Gaming OSD’ app.
The monitor uses a 34″ 3440 x 1440 (21:9 Ultrawide) VA panel with 1000R (steep) curvature to help draw the user into the experience. Other aspects of note include a light matte anti-glare screen surface, 10-bit colour support (8-bit + FRC), 3000:1 static contrast ratio and 178° horizontal and vertical viewing angles. A 165Hz is supported alongside Adaptive-Sync, including AMD FreeSync Premium with a 48 – 165Hz VRR range. A flicker-free WLED backlight is adopted with 92.7% DCI-P3 gamut (117.8% sRGB) for some extra vibrancy and saturation, plus a 550 cd/m² typical maximum luminance. The monitor offers basic HDR10 support via VESA DisplayHDR 400. This allows 10-bit colour processing to be used and for the reasonably high luminance and expanded colour gamut to be put to use. But does not necessitate contrast enhancements such as local dimming. A 1ms MPRT response time is specified using the included strobe backlight setting. The rear of the monitor includes a strip of customisable RGB LEDs and RGB LED MSI logo, with the stand attaching centrally. It offers tilt, swivel and height adjustment and can be replaced by an alternative 100 x 100mm VESA compatible solution if preferred. The ports face downwards and include; AC power (internal power converter), DP 1.4, 2 HDMI 2.0 ports, USB-C (15W PD + DP Alt Mode), 2 USB 3.2 Gen1 ports (plus upstream) and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Further details can be found on the manufacturer’s website. The monitor is listed for ~$900 USD.
