The MSI MAG 275CQRF-QD hits some people’s sweet spot for a monitor, with a curved 27″ QHD VA panel combined with 170Hz refresh rate. The monitor combines various textures of black and dark grey material for a ‘stealthy’ appearance. The top and side bezels also fit this aesthetic, with the popular dual-stage bezel design. This includes a slim panel border flush with the rest of the screen plus thin hard plastic outer part. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by a joystick at the rear, towards the right side as viewed from the front.

A 'stealthy' look

A 27″ 2560 x 1440 (QHD or 1440p) VA panel is included, with 1000R (strong) curve designed to draw you into the experience. A 170Hz (144Hz + factory overclock) refresh rate is supported alongside Adaptive-Sync, facilitating VRR technologies such as Nvidia ‘G-SYNC Compatible’ and AMD FreeSync Premium, with 48 – 170Hz range of operation plus LFC. Other aspects of note include a matte anti-glare screen surface, 4000:1 static contrast ratio, 178° horizontal and vertical viewing angles and 10-bit (8-bit + FRC) colour support. A flicker-free QD LED backlight provides a 300 cd/m² typical maximum luminance and 96% DCI-P3 (94% Adobe RGB, 127% sRGB) colour gamut. Basic HDR10 support is included, allowing the screen to respond to HDR content with 10-bit colour processing. But not requiring the high brightness, local dimming or a generous gamut that defines a true HDR experience.

A 1ms grey to grey response time is specified, which as usual you should pay little attention to. Additional attractive features include Low Blue Light (LBL) settings to potentially improve viewing comfort, ‘Night Vision’ to enhance visibility in dark scenes and a ‘Smart Cross Hair’ feature which changes colour to remain visible regardless of the background shade. The included stand offers tilt and height (130mm or 5.12 inches) adjustment, with provision for 100 x 100mm VESA mounting also included. ‘Mystic Light’ RGB lighting elements are located above the attachment point. The ports face downwards and include; a DC power input (external ‘power brick’), DP 1.2a+ (HDR feature set), 2 HDMI 2.0 ports, USB-C (15W PD and DP Alt Mode), a 3.5mm headphone jack and 2 USB 2.0 ports plus Type-B upstream.
