LCDs with Mini LEDs are often sought-after for their excellent peak and sustained brightness capability as well as contrast enhancement from zonal backlight control. The MSI MAG 274QPF X30MV is one such offering, with 300Hz QHD VA panel and FALD backlight solution. The screen has a smart and unassuming style, with dark matte materials used extensively and a simple rectangular stand base. The top and side bezels are dual-stage, with slim panel border flush with the rest of the screen plus thin hard plastic outer part. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by a joystick beneath a central underhang on the bottom bezel.

Simple styling

A 27” ‘Rapid VA’ panel is used with 2560 x 1440 (QHD or 1440p) resolution, matte anti-glare screen surface and 300Hz refresh rate. VRR is supported via Adaptive-Sync and HDMI 2.1 VRR, allowing technologies such as Nvidia ‘G-SYNC Compatible’ and AMD FreeSync to be used. It also offers VRR support for devices which don’t support Adaptive-Sync, such as the PS5. A 48 – 300Hz VRR range plus LFC is supported. Other aspects of note include a 4500:1 static contrast ratio, 178°/178° viewing angles and 10-bit (8-bit + FRC) colour. A flicker-free Quantum Dot Mini LED backlight delivers a 97% DCI-P3 (99% Adobe RGB, 152% sRGB) colour gamut plus 400 cd/m² (1000 cd/m² HDR peak) typical maximum luminance.

The Mini LED (FALD) backlight includes 1152 dimming zones, providing a dynamic experience at the VESA DisplayHDR 1000 level. The generous colour gamut, 10-bit capability and good brightness levels can be put to good use alongside effective local dimming. A 0.5ms grey to grey response time is specified, with the screen factory calibrated with claimed DeltaE ≤2. The stand is fully adjustable, including 110mm (4.33 inches) height adjustment and pivot into portrait. It can be removed to reveal provision for 100 x 100mm VESA mounting. The ports face downwards and include; DC power input (external ‘power brick’), a 3.5mm headphone jack, DP 1.4 (with DSC) and 2 HDMI 2.1 ports. Various aspect ratio options are included, such as a 24.5″ simulation setting.
