Further information on supporting our work. The MSI MAG274QRX provided a solid all-round performance with attractive pricing, but appears to have been quietly discontinued in most markets. The MSI G274QPX follows up from this model, with slight changes to specifications. The monitor offers simple styling with plenty of dark materials and simple rectangular stand base. The top and side bezels are dual-stage, with slender panel border flush with the rest of the screen plus thin hard plastic outer part. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by a joystick at the rear of the screen, towards the right side as viewed from the front.
A 27″ 2560 x 1440 (QHD or 1440p) IPS-type panel is used, with 240Hz refresh rate plus Adaptive-Sync support. This allows technologies such as AMD FreeSync and Nvidia’s ‘G-SYNC Compatible’ to be used, with 48 – 240Hz VRR range plus LFC. A matte anti-glare screen surface is included with a 1000:1 static contrast ratio, 178°/178° viewing angles and 10-bit (8-bit + FRC) assumed. A flicker-free WLED backlight provides a 400 cd/m²+ peak luminance and 98% DCI-P3 (97% Adobe RGB, 136% sRGB) colour gamut – so greater DCI-P3 coverage than its predecessor (93%). Low Blue Light (LBL) settings are included to provide a potentially more relaxing viewing experience, whilst the screen responds to HDR10 content at the VESA DisplayHDR 400 level. Basic HDR support that doesn’t necessitate a high brightness by HDR standards or local dimming to enhance contrast, but allows 10-bit colour processing to be used and for the generous DCI-P3 coverage to be put to potentially good use.
A 1ms grey to grey response time is specified, which as usual you shouldn’t pay too much attention to. The included stand is fully adjustable, with provision for 100 x 100mm VESA mounting included for alternative mounting. The ports face downwards and include; USB-C (65W PD, DP Alt Mode), DP 1.4, 2 HDMI 2.0 ports, a 3.5mm headphone jack and DC power input (external ‘power brick’). The monitor supports 1440p @120Hz output for systems including the Xbox Series X and PS5. A ‘Night Vision’ gamma enhancement is also featured, giving a competitive edge by aiding visibility in dark areas without compromising static contrast.
Further information can be found on the manufacturer’s website. The monitor is listed for ~$380 USD.
