The introduction of OLED technology into the ultrawide monitor space has been warmly received, with models like the Dell Alienware AW3423DW showcasing this. The LG 45GR95QE (45GR95QE-B owing to mainly black rear) supersizes things and bumps up the refresh rate. The styling is in-keeping with other members of the UltraGear series – so a few ‘gamery’ elements but more minimalistic than some gaming monitors. Slender dual-stage bezels are used at all sides, with slim panel border flush with the rest of the screen plus thin hard plastic outer part. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by a joystick beneath the bottom bezel, in the central region. Or alternatively with an included IR remote.

Very wide and very curved

A 44.5″ OLED panel is used with 3440 x 1440 resolution; this is likely an LG Display WRGB (‘WOLED’) part and it provides a similar pixel density to a 27″ Full HD monitor. The monitor sports a 240Hz refresh rate with VRR support – HDMI 2.1 VRR plus Adaptive-Sync, with 48 – 240Hz VRR range plus LFC. A static contrast ratio of 1m:1 is specified, whilst the usual 178°/178° viewing angles are expected – though the panel type is known to be much stronger in that area than LCDs that may claim the same. A ‘low reflective’ anti-glare screen surface is adopted alongside a 800R (steep) curve, drawing you into the experience and increasing the sense of immersion whilst arguably making such a wide screen more practical for use at the desk. The monitor has a specified 200 cd/m² brightness at 25% APL (Average Picture Level) – so for 25% of the screen displaying white. Where a greater portion of the screen shows bright content, maximum brightness will be limited further (with word of a 120 cd/m² ‘minimum guarantee’ under SDR for 100% white). A 98.5% DCI-P3 colour gamut is specified, whilst HDR10 support is offered without any particular VESA DisplayHDR certification (such as DisplayHDR True Black 400) specified. A high-contrast HDR experience will be delivered either way, given the per-pixel dimming, whilst the generous DCI-P3 gamut can be put to good use alongside 10-bit colour processing.

A 0.1ms grey to grey response time is specified, with the panel type known to be very strong in this area regardless of the exact figure specified. The stand attaches centrally with a quick-release mechanism allowing quick detachment and presumably revealing VESA holes for alternative mounting. The included stand offers tilt, swivel and height adjustment (110mm or 4.33 inches). The ports face backwards in a recessed area beneath the stand attachment point and include; 2 HDMI 2.1 ports, DP 1.4, 2 USB 3.0 ports (plus Type-B upstream) and a DC power input (external ‘power brick’). A downwards-facing 4 pole 3.5mm headphone/microphone jack is also included beneath the bottom bezel, with support for DTS:X headsets. The monitor does not include integrated speakers.

A touch of colour at the rear
