The LG 34WR55QC-B (‘B’ due to the black rear) provides this experience, with its curved VA panel. The monitor has a simple design with black crescent-shaped stand base and cylindrical neck. The top and side bezels are dual-stage, with panel border flush with the rest of the screen plus thin hard plastic outer part. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by a joystick facing downwards beneath the central logo on the bottom bezel.
A 34″ VA panel is used with 3440 x 1440 (21:9 ultrawide) resolution and slight curve to draw you in a bit and potentially improve viewing comfort. A 100Hz refresh rate is supported alongside Adaptive-Sync, allowing VRR technologies such as AMD FreeSync and Nvidia ‘G-SYNC Compatible’ to be used with a 48 – 100Hz VRR range. Other aspects of note include a matte anti-glare screen surface, 3000:1 static contrast ratio, 178°/178° viewing angles and 8-bit colour support. A flicker-free WLED backlight provides a 99% sRGB colour gamut and 300 cd/m² typical maximum luminance.
The monitor responds to HDR10 content in a basic way, but lacks the brightness capability, local dimming or colour gamut for a true HDR experience. A 5ms grey to grey response time is specified, with caution advised as usual. Dynamic Action Sync (DAS) is also specified which suggests low input lag levels. The screen attaches to its stand centrally via a quick-release mechanism and can be removed to reveal provision for 100 x 100mm VESA mounting. The included stand offers tilt and height adjustment. The ports are located to the right of the stand attachment point, in a recessed area, and include; USB-C (65W PD, DP Alt Mode, upstream data), DP 1.4, 2 HDMI 2.0 ports, 2 USB 3.0 ports, a 3.5mm headphone jack and DC power input (external ‘power brick’). The monitor supports 2-device PbP and PiP.
Further information can be found on the manufacturer’s website. The monitor is listed for ~$350 USD.
