Further information on supporting our work.PC and console gamers alike can now enjoy the ‘4K’ UHD resolution at high refresh rates. This combination can also be nice for general purpose usage. The HP OMEN 27u offers this attractive combination, with HDMI 2.1 included to allow ‘4K’ 120Hz output on consoles like the Xbox Series X and PS5. The screen also includes the signature styling associated with the series. This includes a diamond-shaped (rhombus) stand base, with matte black plastics the material of choice. All four sides include a dual-stage bezel, with particularly slim panel border at the top and sides and a hard plastic outer part. An RGB light is found in the central region of the bottom bezel, facing downwards, which can be customised in the OSD or via OMEN Light Studio software. The joystick is located at the rear of the monitor, towards the right side as viewed from the front.
A 27″ 3840 x 2160 (‘4K’ UHD) IPS-type panel is adopted with 144Hz refresh rate. Adaptive-Sync is supported, including AMD FreeSync Premium Pro with 48 – 144Hz VRR range (plus LFC). Other specifications include a 1000:1 static contrast ratio, true 8-bit colour and 178°/178° viewing angles. A WLED backlight delivers a colour gamut of 95% DCI-P3 and typical maximum luminance of 400 cd/m² (400 cd/m² HDR peak). VESA DisplayHDR 400 support is included, allowing the extended colour space to be put to good use with 10-bit colour processing. This level of HDR doesn’t require a particularly high luminance or local dimming, however.
A 1ms grey to grey response time is specified (pinch of salt required) alongside a 1ms MPRT response time using the included strobe backlight setting. The stand attaches using a quick-release mechanism and can be removed to reveal 100 x 100mm VESA holes for alternative mounting. The included stand offers tilt and height (130mm or 5.12 inches) adjustment. Further RGB lighting surrounds the stand attachment point, in a diamond shape. The ports face diagonally downwards at the right (as viewed from the rear) include; DP 1.4, HDMI 2.0, HDMI 2.1 and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Facing diagonally downwards to the left there are 2 USB 3.2 ports and USB-C upstream (data only).
Further details can be found on the manufacturer’s website. The monitor is listed for ~$700 USD.
