The 3440 x 1440 resolution can suit some productivity needs, but for others the more expansive screen and higher resolution provided by ~38″ 3840 x 1600 offerings can be more attractive. The Dell UltraSharp U3824DW provides this experience, with a large ultrawide screen and productivity in mind. The monitor offers the usual smart home-office styling associated with the series. Including a satin-finish silver plastic stand neck and base with contrasting matte black plastic bottom bezel. The top and side bezels are dual-stage, with moderately thick panel border flush with the rest of the screen and slim hard plastic outer part. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by a joystick at the rear, towards the right side as viewed from the front. A separate dedicated power button is also included.

Smart-looking and very wide

A 37.5″ 3840 x 1600 (21:9 ultrawide) LG Display IPS Black panel is used, with contrast ratio enhanced to a specified 2000:1 rather than the usual 1000:1. A matte anti-glare screen surface is included, 60Hz refresh rate is supported and 178°/178° viewing angles plus 10-bit colour offered. The screen is slightly curved, potentially improving viewing comfort. A flicker-free WLED backlight provides a 300 cd/m² typical maximum luminance and 98% DCI-P3 colour gamut. A factory calibration is included with DeltaE <2 specified within the sRGB and DCI-P3 colour spaces (using appropriate modes). The monitor includes 'ComfortView Plus' (TÜV Rheinland certified Low Blue Light Hardware Solution), with the peak of blue light shifted to slightly less energetic wavelengths, potentially enhancing viewing comfort. A 5ms grey to grey response time is specified, which as usual you shouldn't put too much weight on.

The stand attaches centrally via a quick-release mechanism and can be removed to reveal provision for 100 x 100mm VESA mounting. The included stand offers tilt, swivel and height (120mm or 4.72 inches) adjustment. You can also rotate the screen slightly left or right to help with alignment, referred to as slant adjustment. The ports face downwards and include; AC power input (internal power converter), 2 HDMI ports, DP 1.4, USB-C (90W PD, DP Alt Mode, upstream data), a 3.5mm audio output, USB-C upstream (data only), 4 USB 3.2 Gen2 ports and and an RJ45 port. A 5th USB 3.2 Gen2 port and 2 USB-C downstream (15W PD) ports are located at the bottom of the screen, outside the main port area for easy access. 2 x 9W speakers are included and KVM is supported to allow easy display switching and peripheral sharing between 2 systems. PbP/PiP for 2 systems is also supported. Whilst “HDMI 2.1” is specified for the HDMI ports, this is misleading marketing as they only include the capabilities and feature set of HDMI 2.0 (which is sufficient for a 60Hz 3840 x 1600 monitor but won’t include extras like integrated HDMI 2.1 VRR support).

Light-coloured rear
