The ‘4K’ UHD resolution offers plenty of pixels for work and play, with the ~27″ screen size being a popular choice for price and performance. The Dell U2723QE of the infamous UltraSharp series offers this, with the simple modern design the manufacturer is known for. Satin-finish silver plastic is used for the stand, whilst the screen is surrounded by slender bezels on all 4 sides. This is the popular dual-stage bezel design comprising a slim panel border flush with the rest of the screen plus a slim hard plastic outer component. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by a joystick at the rear with a separate dedicated power button, towards the right side as viewed from the front.

Simple and modern styling

A 27″ 3840 x 2160 (‘4K’ UHD) ‘IPS Black’ panel from LG Display is adopted. This supports a 60Hz refresh rate, with a 2000:1 static contrast specified – double the usual 1000:1 for such a panel. Marketing from the panel manufacturer suggests a special ‘IPS glow’ reducing polarising filter may also be used. The usual 178°/178° viewing angles are specified, whilst a matte anti-glare screen surface is adopted and 10-bit colour supported (8-bit + FRC assumed). A flicker-free WLED backlight delivers a 98% DCI-P3 colour gamut and 400 cd/m² typical maximum luminance. A factory calibration with specified DeltaE <2 is included for both the sRGB and DCI-P3 spaces, using the appropriate presets. ‘ComfortView Plus’ is supported, which means the peak of blue light is shifted to less energetic wavelengths to potentially aid viewing comfort (TÜV Rheinland certified hardware solution). Plus the usual ‘ComfortView’ Low Blue Light (LBL) setting is included to promote more relaxing viewing, with warmer colour temperature and reduced blue light of all wavelengths.

The monitor responds to HDR10 content in a basic way, with VESA DisplayHDR 400 support. This allows the relatively generous colour gamut to be put to good use alongside 10-bit colour. But doesn’t provide particularly high luminance output by HDR standards or require local dimming to enhance contrast. A 5ms grey to grey response time is specified, which as usual you shouldn’t put too much weight on. The rear of the screen is textured light grey plastic, similar to the S2722QC we’ve reviewed. The included stand attaches centrally with a quick-release mechanism and can be easily removed to make way for an alternative 100 x 100mm VESA compatible solution. The stand is fully adjustable, including height adjustment (150mm or 5.9 inches) and pivot into portrait. The ports are down-facing beneath the stand attachment point and include; AC power input (internal power converter), HDMI 2.0, DP 1.4, DP 1.4 out (for MST daisy chaining), USB-C (90W PD, DP Alt Mode, upstream data), a 3.5mm audio output, USB-C upstream (data only), 4 USB 3.2 Gen2 ports and an RJ45 port. For easy access, an additional USB 3.2 Gen2 port and USB-C downstream port is located at the bottom of the screen, outside the main port area. KVM support is offered for USB peripheral sharing between 2 systems, whilst 2-source PbP and PiP is also supported.

Plenty of ports
