The combination of ‘4K’ UHD resolution and ~32″ screen size provides a strong pixel density and excellent ‘desktop real estate’. The Dell SE3223Q is one such option, built with productivity and multi-tasking in mind. The monitor has a smart and unfussy home-office design, with plenty of dark matte plastics and a relatively compact stand base. The top and side bezels are dual-stage with a slim panel border flush with the rest of the screen plus a thin hard plastic outer part. The OSD (On Screen Display) is controlled by buttons on the underside of the bottom bezel, towards the right side. A dedicated power button with the company’s signature ‘vertical slit’ power LED is also included.

Smart home-office appearance

A 31.5″ 3840 x 2160 (‘4K’ UHD) VA panel is adopted, with 60Hz refresh rate and matte anti-glare screen surface. Other points of note include a 3000:1 static contrast ratio, 178° horizontal and vertical viewing angles and 10-bit colour support (8-bit + FRC assumed). Adaptive-Sync is supported including AMD FreeSync with 40 – 60Hz VRR range. A flicker-free WLED backlight provides a 300 cd/m² typical maximum luminance and 99% sRGB colour gamut. Sometimes the manufacturer specifies such a gamut even if ~90% DCI-P3 is achieved (wide gamut).

The manufacturer’s ‘ComfortView’ Low Blue Light (LBL) setting is also included, promoting a more relaxing viewing experience. A 4ms grey to grey response time is specified, which as usual should be taken with a large pinch of salt. The stand offers tilt as the only ergonomic flexibility, though a central plastic cover can be removed to reveal provision for 100 x 100mm VESA mounting. The ports face downwards and include; AC power input (internal power converter), 2 HDMI 2.0 ports, DP 1.2a and a 3.5mm audio output. The monitor includes PiP/PbP functionality.
